Reported in the latest SA MLS Confidential: "Striker Dwayne DeRosario, a Canadian international, may explore options in Britain. DeRosario impressed scouts last month playing for Canada in a friendly against Scotland. Because Canada's international results have moved it into the top 70 of the FIFA rankings and he has played in at least 75 percent of its games, he can qualify for a UK work permit. Two years remain on DeRosario's MLS contract."
Well he may have looked good, but he still is under contract with MLS for 2 years and I don't see the Quakes getting rid of him anytime soon if they can help it.
I don't see any reason why DeRo would want to move on at this point, unless he's still unhappy about playing time. You also have to take into account who in Britain has taken an interest.
Exactly. It might have been the Bournemouth Obstetricians or the Watford Long John Silver Impersonators.
From the wording of the article, it sounds like we're talking about Scottish rather than English teams having an interest in DeRo. Aside from Celtic and Rangers, I don't think the SPL rates any higher than MLS. However, if DeRo thinks he might sit on the bench behind Donovan and Graziani, then I could see where the prospect of a starting spot and perhaps more money might cause him to take notice. This off-season already has a completely different tone than last year's. While we were given every indication that the team would remain intact last year, this time around virtually everyone seems up for grabs!
It would be an excellent move for him, it would be an excellent move for the MLS(especially if you could sell him for anything), and it would be an excellent move for the Quakes. DeRo has had flashes of brilliance (golden goal), but he consistently puts pressure on himself to do to much. He does not have very good visibility, he prefers to dribble out of situations (with the likelyhood of him losing the ball), and when he does dribble he heads into the corner with his head down. Consider also that the Quakes are looking everywhere to fit more in under the salary cap. Freeing up Dwaynes portion leaves more room for Wade and Joe.
bargaining power..... since the "pundits" and FY are pretty sure Graziani will be gone next season, DeRo is in prime position for the starting slot up top.....
Hmm. I really can't think of any good reasons for DeRo staying with the Quakes, it's going to depend on who's going and who's coming. Another reason might be Yallop and his Canadian connection. I don't think it's out of the question that Yallop could be a future Canadian National Team coach, but that really has nothing to do with DeRos future with the Canadian Nats.
It's all speculation based on the SA Confidential... He's still under contract with the league/team so he's staying put for now, unless Gazidis along with Moore wants to pull the trigger on a transfer... I'll believe it when I see it if DDR goes... Having the coach coming from the same country helps a lot in which he'll stay put...
