I'm starting to think that there may be more to this on the Dynamo side than they are letting on - the lack of sound bites from DeRo since the trade could mean several things: (1) he didn't really want to go now (kind of think that is unlikely), (2) he's not talking until he gets his raise and extension signed and (3) he's somehow ticked off at the Dynamo. This whole thing seems kind of abrupt and a little strange.
Slim to nil with the latter being more likely. Actually I don't know why I wrote slim at all. It's not going to happen.
As with most in this forum - I was blindsided by the trade of DeRo to Toronto FC last friday. Being the inquisitive type (possibly due to my 30 years as a fed) I decided that there had to be more to the trade than was being admitted to by the Dynamo organization. After all - DeRo got a new contract last year with a significant increase in salary and was supposedly committed until 2010. Yeah I know the salary cap, aging players, need to replace others etc was probably part of the reason for the deal - but things just didn't smell right to me. Using my innate skills as an investigator I got to searching and found the smoking gun - here it is. This is the real reason for the DeRo trade. Evidently Toronto fans will do anything for their team.
Not only would Wynne fill a void on our Dynamo, but as a Nats fan I want him coached by Dom Kinnear, instead of being held hostage in Canada where he's being maldeveloped by that idiot Carver. Maybe I read Bill Archer too much.
Does anyone else find it strange that there doesn't seem to be any actual DeRo response or quotes about the trade? Nothing in the Chronicle. I can't find much on the TFC site. I think most of what is in the MLSnet articles are old quotes that are recycled in a different context. It seems odd that they can't get a sound bite from a guy who is "going home". Maybe he is out of the country or at a retreat or something. But, I think something strange is going on here, unless they are going to introduce him in some type of fashion show deal and are holding off on it. I think he's holding out for a bigger contract and won't say anything until he gets his extension signed at max dollars. But that's not our problem anymore.
Yep. I was thinking the same thing. In the Holden article in the paper he talks about the trade, it's not like the players are keeping quiet. But... where is DeRo? In other days he would have been on Glenn's show tonight, maybe he was, but I wasn't home and didn't get to hear the show.
Oh, yea..... I'm so sick of the cold and cloudy and yuck I'm trying to get this week over with. Except that I do want to catch Pachuca Wednesday morning, so it's important to remember that tomorrow is Wednesday.... thanks.
I completely understand that the Dynamo FO thought JJ and $$ was sufficient value for DeRo. I disagree that it is. I understand the decision to move DeRo, given all the cap issues, etc.
Ives says the allocation money was $150k. Regarding draft picks, I have two points: 1. Geoff Cameron 2. Julias James was a draft pick 1-year ago.
someone explain allocation money to me again-we lose Dwayne's salary, pick up Julius' and 150K to use to towards signing players is that correct? I think I misunderstood what was going on.
Allocation money is money that can be used to buy down a player's cap hit...only if he just signed with the league. For example: if we sign Wade to a $150K contract, we can buy down his cap hit to 0. There is a limit to how much allocation money taht can be used in one year (though I'm not sure on the exact amount). Also, allocation money can be used to pay transfer fees (see NY's fiasco earlier this year with a certain USL player) or, maybe, for non-field related issues (see Toronto's grass issue) EDIT: rarely is the actual amount of allocation money sent released. It's usually in a range, like ours. From TFC, we received anywhere from $125-$200K in allocation money
that's what I thought it was-but in this example wouldn't Wade be exempt since he has already been in the league-I thought it was for new players to the league-like when Albright started playing in MLS out of college.
So long as it is a new contract, it is doable. It's just that many new contracts are first-timers (internationals) so that is where the money goes. A great example of an MLS player with allocation money is Carlos Ruiz. His salary was brought down from non-DP status in Dallas with allocation money. Not that it helped them any, but is is an example. Also, it is usually used only on the pricier players, which, again, tend to be internationals
From his website it was on last night. This was posted yesterday: So, did anybody hear it? I thought it was on Wednesdays....
NO!!! I'm not Gay!!! I just have a lot of time on my hands and I enjoy fooling around with photos, video, and music - (and I figured out how to outsmart Don Henley). I'm now working on the Tony Caig video for Rey
I never said TFC gave $500,000. I believe with the trade we ended up freeing up a good amount of money. After the salary difference is added in it gives up quite a bit more than $150,000. ftr- I also agree we gave him up way to cheap.
Hey, anybody know what happened with the allocation we got from SJ for Corrales? Did we use that last year?
