Congratulations to Dwayne! http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...ne-de-rosario/2011/11/18/gIQA9nuMXN_blog.html I didn't notice this else where, so if it needs to be moved I'll understand.
tweet from da' mayor: @mayorvincegray: Congratulations to DC United's own @dwaynederosario, the 2011 MLS MVP! Bravo DeRo! an intern must have stolen his tweeter
second tweet from him mayorvincegray Vincent C. Gray Fun fact: DCU has now produced three MLS MVPs n last 6 yrs- DeRo, Christian Gomez '06 and Luciano Emilio '07 It's a simple basic acknowledgment of a team and its players to placating the people he pissed off. It alienates no one and gets those thinking he hates/doesn't care about the team to reconsider their opinion.
I didn't think he would get the vote because DC didn't make the playoffs but do think he was the best player in the league. Congratulations to DeRo. Also what's really impressive is how he by far and away won the player's vote. details here in press release
I have to admit I was nonplussed when the signing was announced. By the end of the season I was firmly on the DeRo bandwagon. Imagine this season without him. Full deserved award.
Looks like our front office can do something right when it puts their collective minds together. And I think DeRo just nailed his DP contract, too. Thx, Jay!
Actually Mayor Gray is a big DeRo fan. He's got a huge DeRo fathead on his office wall and everything. Congrats to Dwayne. His run with us last year was the most impressive I've seen in this league ever. asitis
Congrats to Dwayne. Well done and well deserved! The bad news is that the FO will have to pay more for him now. Suck it up boys.
To be fair to Henry, he's been one of DeRo's biggest backers since the trade, and has even pissed off Red Bulls fans by going out of his way to laud DeRo, and make clear that DeRo's exit wasn't his idea. http://goal.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/11/02/qa-with-the-red-bulls-thierry-henry/ "...look at Dwayne De Rosario. He scored, what, 16 goals, 12 assists? I mean when you see him on the ball, that’s creativity. Sometimes he doesn’t always succeed in what he does, but you want to see someone that goes and tries to create stuff. Dwayne De Rosario for me should be the face of this league in terms of he’s been playing here for a very long time. I think he has the most championships, the teams he plays on succeed every time. People talk about players like me, Donovan, Beckham all the time. They don’t talk about guys like [Jamison] Olave..." "Well, [Soler's] the boss, so … I would have loved DeRo to stay, but that’s out of my hands. You could clearly see what DeRo did after. He did what DeRo does. That’s the way it is. Difficult for me to talk about. I’d rather to have DeRo in this squad than not." This second high-profile interview in which he addresses DeRo http://footytweets.com/la_galaxy/news/615874 ("For me, he’s the face of this league. His record talks for itself" ) is the one that moved the Red Bulls boards to reevaluate the reasons why DeRo may have been traded. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=24677437&postcount=5
I took a quick look at his season stats and all other MVP winners. The numbers he was able to put up in his time with DC are very impressive. http://mlssnob.com/2011/11/dwayne-de-rosario-mvp
In case you haven't seen it. http://espn.go.com/sports/soccer/news/_/id/7250756/dc-united-dwayne-de-rosario-named-mvp-mls
Wow, that's great news. Thanks so much for pointing it out to us. Does anyone know how we might have missed it around here?
Down boy - He's visitor who's probably pissed that Toronto stupidly gave away the best Canadian player to the Red Bulls - Who then gave him away to DC United - (btw- those "Trades" were give aways)
