    From the news ticker; Deputy PM wants Canada to break ties with the Queen.

    Minister Questions Monarchy As Queen Tours Canada

    Queen Elizabeth II flew into immediate controversy at the start of a Canadian tour on Friday when the country's deputy prime minister said Canada should ditch the British monarchy.

    Not really. Some people think we should become a republic. But no one really give a hoot. Having the Queen as a figurehead doesn't really bother me. I'd rather her than Chretien.

    Commonwealth countries are always wanting to sever ties with the monarchy, yet they rarely get around to doing it.
