The summer has not been kind to our heroes, loyal viewers and citizens all. The wear of a long and grueling season has caused several key members of the Crew to miss time, turning our lovable heroes from a group of all-conquering superstars into a plucky band of underdogs. Now, they face a true minion of E.V.I.L. , a force from the metropolis to the east. One of the favored sons of the face of E.V.I.L, its commisioner Gong D Arbor. The new fortress of our yellow clad heroes will be tested again. Will our heroes stand tall against all odds?
NYC's 2-1 loss to Montreal was the first game this season they were outscored in xG. Johnson and Sands are big losses for them, so this is a good time to get them at home. Room and BWP are back at practice. It'll be interesting to see if Keita takes Wormgoor's spot, who starts at right back (SAS or Hairston), and if BWP is healthy enough to start at striker.
Out here at #Crew96 training. Eloy Room is with the team after coming back from Gold Cup. Josh Williams off to the side. BWP with full group in warmups.— Jacob Myers (@_jcmyers) July 13, 2021
Right now, I'd go with Berry as the starter for a couple reasons. First, he'll be confident, having scored in the last game. Second, he's younger, and third, he's likely in game shape, having played a bit at SD. On the flip side, he's not BWP--and may not even be an MLS level striker. But we may as well find that out now.
This game is also the first test on the traffic/parking patterns. It's not a Clippers game, but a charity softball game is at Huntington Park at 6:30...just an hour before the Crew game starts.
Caleb Porter said #Crew96 forward Bradley Wright-Phillips is “close.” He said today was Wright-Phillips’ first full session in training and if he’s available on Saturday, it will be off the bench for 20-30 minutes.— Patrick Murphy (@_Pat_Murphy) July 13, 2021 So Berry starting at forward it is, then.
This might be our first game with some rain...so we get to see how the roof works now that they have had a few weeks to work on it.
Hopefully it's better than the Nordecke Night Out. Based on that event, the first few rows will get wet and there's no way the concourse will stay dry.
You'll take your draw and be perfectly happy with it! We just got a new stadium and we saved the Crew and injuries and 1,000 other excuses so no complaints out of you, mister!
The Nordecke is organizing a minute of silence in the 80th minute for Matiss Kivlineks. In addition, they're painting tifo today at 6pm outside the Nationwide Arena box office (near the Tim Hortons) and all are invited to come help paint.
In case this wasn't already posted: #Crew96 injury report:OUT: Wormgoor (hamstring), Valenzuela (hamstring), Artur (hip), Morris (ACL)Questionable: Williams (ankle), BWP (hamstring)I did not see Wormgoor at training on Tuesday, the last time media was out there.— Jacob Myers (@_jcmyers) July 15, 2021
Hard to see Vito being back next year. Anyway, Mensah and Keita in the middle, then? Pedro at left back? Or are we so depleted at midfield that we have to start Francis? Abdul-Salaam or Hairston at right back? Regardless, it'll be yet another patchwork quilt of a lineup. I hope Lucas is ready to carry the team on his shoulders again.
The nordecke/sgs are doing more marketing work than patrice has and will ever do. It is getting annoying.
Jonathan Mensah said they've watched a lot of film on the early goals allowed this year and believes they have made the corrections to not allow those. #Crew96— Jacob Myers (@_jcmyers) July 16, 2021 It's good to know we don't have to worry about that anymore.
So for anyone else who just got an email from the Crew about the game tomorrow, are you also seeing the attached image as the Columbus Crew email avatar? The letters "CC" in red. What am I missing?
So they've decided to stop.ignoring opposing strikers who are standing around the goal mouth? Like someone needed to tell them.this?
Vito is coming off a year-long injury and needs time to adjust to the league. Does everyone forget how bad our Captain was in year 1?
Mensah was bad for more than a season but it was bonehead decisions . Vito is older and the problem is health / he is slow and we need to move on unless he wants league minimum ( a nice way to say gtfoh!)
