    from babblefish:
Clint Dempsey played in 2004, for the first time at the highest level and made immediately a very well impression. The middenvelder technically skilful stands confessed for its good pass and shot. In 22 duels Dempsey scored this season 6 goals. Moreover he was exclaimed to best new player of the Major League Soccer. Before he gedraft became New England Revolution ended up the American for the college team of Furman. There he played both on the midfield and in the attack. Dempsey played also already for American youth-elective.

Go to the Dutch forum and ask someone over there to translate it for you, but I believe it does say he will be training with Feyenoord for a short time this winter.

AMERICAN SET FOR DE KUIP TRIAL
    18-11-2004 | 19:45

"New England Revolution midfielder Clint Dempsey hooks up with Feyenoord for a week’s trial coming Monday. The twenty-old year old American has been tipped for great things in his homeland, after bagging the Major League Soccer Rookie of the Year award last term. Known for his passing and shooting skills Dempsey racked up six scores in 22 games in the process. The centrefielder has also earned international recognition since making the switch from college team Furman, amassing a raft of call-ups to the US youth setup."

I don't know how worried I should feel seeing the word "trial" as opposed to "training."

Johnson is going to Man U to "train" for two weeks.
Dempsey is going to Feyenoord for a "trial."
    Interesting.

Maybe Clint can bring Rusty to carry his bags, and perhaps interest Go Ahead Eagles in Rusty while he is there. ;)

You mean the "Real Madrid of Zuid Frijsland?" Naw, he'll likely wind up with a bigger, more prestigious club like KV Oudzijdsvoorgenwaal Printshenrikkadesgracht. The name rolls right off the tounge, at least to the local "Ultras"

Really Franky. Did Rusty steal your girlfriend or something? Because this is beginning to border on obsession. But hey, whatever makes you happy...

Sure hope Dempsey's going for training though - rather than a trial.

Rusty is a decent MLS player and he can still get better, but he apparently wants out. Fair enough.
Anti-BF and soccertim (who normally is less emotional in his arguments)apparently see him as the Revos own Roberto Carlos and Rusty is caught in the crossfire of the expansion draft talk and their own crooked slings and arrows.

If Rusty wanted to stay and play here then I'd have no problem with that. It would save having to find one defender in the offseason.
But if he doesn't, then so be it. Good luck to him.

Maybe De Grote Kaas, an acknowledged Pierce fan ;) , can give him a recommendation for Eredivisie 2.

Even the english-language version of the site might lack in precision. I would presume that Dempsey is still under contract with mls, so "trial" is inacurate. Unless the good people at feyenoord make an offer too good to pass up.

Or they arrange a loan deal.

In any case, I wouldn't panic just yet.

The "trial" vs "training" thing comes up every offseason. Until you hear that there's an offer on the table, assume that it's just training.

To the MLS, their player is getting "training".

To the Dutch team, they are getting a look at an interesting player, so to them, it's a "trial".

The question is what is it a trial for. And the answer is likely, whether to inquire about his availability from MLS. So, any talk about about a transfer is probably a very remote possibility at this point.

But the team gets a peak at a player (and an idea of what MLS skill-level is) and Dempsey gets exposed to some different ideas and training.
