In the last few games he has gotten beaten up pretty good. Yet, at the end of 90 mins, he is leading the charge into the goal. Punched, kicked, spiked and a lot the camera did not catch. I love him. He has the heart of a Lion and brings it to the field every match. Not only USMNT, he brings it to Fulham every weekend. They got a winner cheap.
Dempsey the Bull carried the game, not LD. Dempsey created half of LD's goal by making the run. Dempsey may not be captain, but he wears his emotion and plays with more heart than most anyone ever.
dempsey was very involved today but his finishing was crap. the morale of the story for deuce is that, if youre going to blow 5-6 golden scoring chances...be sure that Landon has your back so he can score the rebound.
Forgive me but I am going to disagree with the general sentiment that is likely to emerge on this thread. I thought Dempsey's lack of ability to finish severely hurt the US squad today. He was consistently provided with the final ball and found a way to fail to find the net on multiple occasions. From his left footed toe poke in the first half to him hitting the post on the 1 v.1 with the keeper and subsequent missed left foot open net shot to his skied free kick to his failure to get the ball over the keeper on the final play Dempsey found numerous ways to NOT score why failing to provide any easy opportunities for any of our other players to score. Dempsey is tough, no doubt, but I thought his lack of class in the final third really held us back today.
Dempsey is not a good shooter...wish he was but that said .. ....That punk captain of Algeria should be punished severely for punching Clint in the face. Did you slow mo that shit. It was a sucker punch by the idiot that got the Red at the end of the game. I couldnt believe my eyes when i saw the replay. It was in the 84 or 85 minute I think. We were fighting for the win and this little bitch who represented Algeria tried to take out our player. He should get a ban from International play.
You don't need to shit on Landon. Without him we don't get out of the Slovenia match, even if Clint's heart grew three sizes that day.
I find it hard to blame him on most of his chances. The good chances of Dempsey's I recall: - Nice tap in goal (incorrectly disallowed). - Fairly weak shot on goal from in close that was mostly a good last minute tackle on Donovan's pass. - Decent long range shot that was well stopped by the keeper with no rebound. - Well-taken shot off the inside of the post. Difficult to fault a good shot that's a few inches too far outside. - Bad miss off of the rebound off of the post that he definitely should have done better with, even if it was a tough shot on his wrong side. - Miss on the counterattack, of which Donovan scored the rebound. Good play by the goalkeeper to pick it almost right off of his foot.
I'll give you that. He got in good position to finish that and nailed the sitter that Herc set up for him and it was wrongly disallowed. I don't think Clint it terrible I just wonder whether it is the right move to have him moved to forward in light of his struggles finishing. He is tough, no doubt, but I'd take him being a little less tough and finishing a higher percentage of the chances set on a platter for him.
I don't think his finishing was necessarily off today. The post shot was a nice effort, that happens. The rebound he should have done better with but whatever. The toe poke someone mentioned: I'm pretty sure his foot hit an Algerian players leg and it caused him to not get any power on it, though I'll have to rewatch. The Donovan goal play was a good run by Deuce and would have been extremely hard to finish. It does seem like he's taking a beating more so than any of our other players, not sure if it's his style of play or because he has swagger and some people intentionally give em the business if they don't like that. At the end of the day, we won so who cares.
I think considering clint is probably the best clutch scorer on the team, he might be deserving of a little more slack than Findley, especially considering his overall effort. And, as someone else pointed out, it's not like he missed a bunch of sitters. Disallowed goal, last minute tackle, post, rushed shank (this is the only one that's 100% on him) and a 50/50 ball at the end that he managed to make sure created a rebound.
sorry i don't give slack you dont get a lot of sitters in big games, more like half chances. good players score a few of the half chances. clints a good player. he didnt score any of them.
Even the "shank", all his momentum was taking him away from goal, it was on his off foot and most importantly, it was a bouncing ball. I know it was from close range, but it was no gimme.
Strongly disagree. A shot that bounces of the post is a miss, is a miss, is a miss. It was a bad miss from in close, with time. No other way to honestly describe it. Dempsey is tough though and I certainly want him to start against Ghana. A very important player for us who leads by example.
on the flipside, you can say that he's been getting in good position all game and perhaps he was bound to score one eventually. obviously, he didn't. but he was getting good chances. like someone else said, i don't really blame him for his misses. the post was just bad luck. it happens. like rooney's shot today. i think the toepoke was blocked or a defender got a tackle in. he is a warrior. however, i wish he would spend less time on the ground and staring at a ref. obviously, some fouls are worse than others and do require time to get back up. but he does spend a lot of clock on the ground and complaining to the refs.
I actually thought he might be added to the long list of pre-World Cup injuries during that Australia "friendly". Hope he's getting first choice of masseuse post-game. If linesman hadn't blown the offside call today, you wouldn't see any Dempsey detractors here.
A - what has Findley done for this team? or his club lately for that matter? B - if Dempsey's goal is rightly allowed, who's to say his finishing would have been as poor the rest of the game? Unfortunately that's the way it goes sometimes... once a few seasons ago, Liverpool had a legitimate goal wrongly disallowed early in a game against Stoke. They never could find the back of the net after and it finished a 0-0 draw. Shit happens.
no worries i will. i understand defending your fulham boy and i love him too. was just saying that his finishing was crap. that is all. go usa and good day all!
he is a warrior. however, i wish he would spend less time on the ground and staring at a ref. obviously, some fouls are worse than others and do require time to get back up. but he does spend a lot of clock on the ground and complaining to the refs. gotta agree he spent a little too much time on the ground today for my liking
I'm not shitting on him. I'm saying Dempsey was the look more dangerous to score for 89 of 95 minutes. Donovan sparked the Slovenia game, sure. But Clint did more throughout the game. Misses or not, as we learned against England, you gotta have a shot to score. He hit the post and scored (linesman error). Give him the credit, the call on the goal was "Dempsey in AGAIN, Donovan scores!"
