Good interview - I think being at the point where a US midfielder is a mainstay on a premiership team and an important part of their attack, but isn't necessarily the key part of the US' game, is a place we haven't been before.
Deuce is the man. Gotta love the kid's fight, and he seems like a really down to earth, relaxed guy not caught up in the limelight. It's pretty obvious he had a great role model in McBride, which I really think taught Dempsey the right way to be a professional footballer.
This should be required reading for every young U.S. player, whether playing in MLS or still in the youth ranks, who has aspirations of playing in Europe. Dempsey was very forthright about the mindset needed and the challenges he has to face. Playing in a top league in Europe (or even a second tier league) requires tremendous self-confidence and perserverence. Hats off to him.
The following struck me in terms of what Freddy must be going through right now: Given that Dempsey has largely been a success with Fulham (for the most part), though not a HUGE success, I can only imagine what kind of doubts, consternation and confidence crisis' Freddy must be dealing with...especially given his even younger age and (somewhat) higher expectations starting out. Looking forward to the 2nd part of the Clint's intereview.
