I am really starting to like the REVS. I want to see this team win, Demps. impressed me a lot with the jr. nats, and hasnt stopped yet. This guy is good.
I don't think I've ever searched for a BUMP in any MLS team's forum before, but this kid is worth it. Clint is a bonifide star in the making. I mean, how many other MLS players have attempted that many diving headers in a season, let alone 1/3 of a season???
His upside appears to be huge. If he keeps improving at this rate, we will see him in qualifyers come the hex.
Demps is huge, and so is his fan club. As soon as the jerseys come available in ******, I'll be buying a Dempsey one. He should be in consideration and the favorite to win ROTY (if he stays healthy and keeps playing the way he has). He's just plain nasty.
From the little I've seen of him, I'm fired up too. Unfortunatly, I've only seen the Revs play when they were on the Soccer Saturday national broadcast. My question for you guys in the know: Can he defend? He's been playing d-mid (unless I'm wrong), but I keep seeing highlights each week of him scoring these killer goals. Is this guy the next generation attacking d-mid, or is he not a good defender, but the injuries and his quality have forced him onto the field? Thanks to you Revs fans in advance.
Dempsey can defend. He can track back and steal the ball. He'll hit. He'll get the right position to force the action backward. He'll also make a few mistakes, but, man does he get pissed about it. He bounces up and goes into the next gear to track the "offender" and get a bit chippy about it. Also, anytime a Revs gets slapped or pushed by the opposition, Dempsey is one of the first to get in the action, THAT is why I like him. Not because there is a dash of thuggery there, but because he GIVES a SH!T about his squad and Revolution Glory. Did you see him after he scored against the Mutts....Right to the Fort. He knows who he plays for and that is worth the price of admission.
Dempsey's desire to defend does not yet seem to match his thirst to attack. Compare the effort and speed he shows going forward to that going back and some valid concerns remain. He has played passable defense in a 3-5-2 scheme, however.
Revs-West, you hit the nail on the head. I think his attitude towards his team and New England in general has been a bright spot during this injury riddled season and seems to be having a positive affect on his teammates, especially the other rookies getting the chance to play because of the injuries. Here's hoping the Revs can pull everything together and get a playoff spot at the end of the season! On a side note, I was able to attend the game against the Metrostars on Saturday and the crowd although not that big was really behind the team. The atmosphere was great!!!!
This kid is good... easy winner for ROTY and with a guy like Parke as a rookie, that says a lot to be the favorite over Parke. Dont get too excited though, we had this last year when Rico Clark played amazing at D-mid, and this year hes struggling a lot. Im not saying it will happen with Dempsey, I hope he keeps improving, the Nats could use a guy like him to replace Claudio Reyna in a few years.
I'm puzzled by this. If I had to guess, I'd guess that RC is wrong for the system he's in, i.e. cleaning up behind Guevara. I think his finesse would be better used playing in a flatter midfield with another two-way mid, such as Lisi. Or picture a U23 USMNT midfield (from left to right) with DMB, Clark, Convey, Dempsey, and Gaven.
"I mean, how many other MLS players have attempted that many diving headers in a season, let alone 1/3 of a season???" Taylor Twellman in his first year with the Revs. The Magpie
it is Dempsey's skill and confidence with his feet that excite me more.Madmen on headballs are less rare in the USA than guys with great feet. His finish on Saturday was just ice cold.
Clark was overrated. And being such a jerk on the field doesn't help his cause. The move that Dempsey put on the last defender was such a smooth instinctual play, you'd think he was Brazillian. He put the ball by one side of the defender and went around the other side, picked up the ball without missing a stride, smoothly went right around Walker and had 24 feet of goal to lay the ball into!
You're preaching to the choir here, but it's nice to get confirmation that we aren't just seeing him through Revs colored glasses. I do love the combination of skill and attitude he's shown.
Okay, done. But Kirovski's goal is way in the lead, and it was pretty unique. It's better when goals from that far out beat keepers who were in a better position and who didn't make a mistake like that to actually cause the opportunity.
I also voted for Dempsey's goal, but I guess most people who don't vote for their own are going to go with the most spectacular looking one, and that's Kirovski's for sure. Interesting how only Dempsey's and Burciaga's didn't rely on a defender mis-hitting the ball.
i have some great futbol clips on my computer, and i must say that Clint's goal had a very close similarity to Ronaldo, no?

I'm not a NE fan in any way but Dempsey is the most exciting new player to me and is becoming a favorite. His agility to the ball, energy, and skill are refreshing. When he's on the field, other players in comparison don't look like they care. Hopefully he'll sustain this trait. He makes games watchable and that's important in any league. Now for his consensus Brazilian name ...
Eric Wynalda who was doing the Mutt-DCU PBP tonight said that Clint is by far the best rookie in MLS this year. He had verrrry high praise for Dempsey.
