And this one would actually help the short-term economy.

The biggest Economic problems in the country right now are the State governments out of money, rising unemployment, and consumer spending falling. Topped by the fact that business can't afford to any new investments because they aren't showing any profits without laying people off.

Bush's response was to ignore that and cut dividend taxes, aimed to help the rich (right along with his plan to fast-track his income tax cuts that would also help the rich). It spends 600 Billion, doesn't help state governments, doesn't create new jobs, and doesn't help the middle and lower classes. Basically out in left field.

The Dem's plan would give money to states, help create about a million jobs, help the unemployed, cut business some slack by lettin them write-off new investments (something they've been asking for), and gives some cash for people spend in the form of cash rebates. It actually, you know, stimulates the economy.

Of course in the republican controlled houses that plan has a snow ball's chance in hell of gettting passed. If Bush proposed a plan that said that all American's now have to eat sh!t for dinner it would probably get passed.

Fast tracking the income tax cuts helps an large percentage of the population, not just the "rich"

Bush has the only viable economic stimulous plan, but he is not advertising it as such.

He should put on a pirate outfit, send the Jolly Roger up the flagpole on the USS John C. Stennis, and tell the American people, "Set sail for Iraq! We be after war booty! Arrrghhh!"

Last year the Democrats were putting down Bush's Tax plan including the tax rebate. Funny how they have changed their minds now.

No - they should have been putting it down, and calling for its repeal. One of the many things they've rolled over on.

Sounds like just the opposite is going to happen as the next thing on the plate seems to be making certain if not all line items permanent instead of expiring in 2010 as originally laid out.

I looked at both plans and both plans have merit.

So after they both bargain with each other a decent plan will come out of it one way or the other.

Nah, I say we just go with the Republicans plan, even though it doesn't go nearly far enough in lifting the confiscatorial albatross that is the US Government around the necks of its citizens.

Talk about blinking at high noon.

The Democratic left took a gut shot in Novemeber. Now they were just kicked in the face by their own colleagues.

Thats because in todays American Democracy, the only thing that matters is contradicting the enemy party. And it doesn't matter the merits of the opposing parties plan, just refute it.

I just like the Democrats plan this time because it seems to me the more sensible for the short term. Bush's plan is pretty good for the long-term though.

I think the good news is something good will actually be passed relatively soon.

I think the republican plan of a lump sum payment to the unemployed could help get people jobs sooner.

Because to extend unemployment longer won't help them immediately, especially when they are short of actual cash now. It might even help them make a better presentation on how they look now who knows.

So I like this and some of what the Democrates want to do.

To bad both parties want to just praise their own plans instead of joining the best of both, and pass something that could help the economy and people.

Be nice for once to see them put people first over the parties.

Favoring just the ideas of their own party makes me sick.

An ordinary person if they look at both plans can find things in both plans that can help,

But a politician just won't say yes there is good some in the others plans so lets use the best of both plans. I have no use for politians because of that.

I rather devote most of my time to our game instead.
