So great to see someone like Donna Brazile, released from the strictures of being a CNN talking head, get to show us why she was picked to be a political pundit in the first place.
So is this the sense of everyone else: 1. They reach a deal on Florida. Probably some sort of 50% solution. 2. They deadlock and punt on Michigan. If that's the case then my August 28, 2:00am pick in "The Hillary Clinton Presidential Campaign Ghoul Pool" is looking strong.
Even though this primary season has had a tremendous learning curve and it has been one hell of a civics lesson, I kind of felt like today was a nail in the coffin for the Enlightenment. It reveals the limitations of democracy for sure.
I should have said it was the final nail in the coffin; I could have gone for the postmodern argument, but pomo is so 1980's (with its pastiche, schizophrenia and Fredric Jameson) that it doesn't pander enough to today's kids. Oh, and
I think it is almost impossible for the Democrats to lose in November, but you have to give them credit for trying as hard as they can.
I think is the best quote so far: "My momma taught me to play by the rules and respect those rules. My mother taught me, and I'm sure your mother taught you, that when you decide to change the rules, middle of the game, end of the game, that is referred to as cheatin.'" -- Donna Brazile
No kidding. And Chris Matthew's comment about how the Democrats always arrive late to the movies is true. I show up early; maybe I should be a Republican?
Exactly. And if the voters of the states of Michigan and Florida want they votes to count, their best recourse is to make their votes count by voting out of office all the clowns who represent them in their state and who voted in favor of breaking the rules.
They started with the nailing around about 1914. It was less about "democracy" per se, and more about what was proven to remain possible for "Europe". Also, you should not conflate democracy with the Enlightenment (exhibit A, by the way). But that's neither here nor there in this thread ... What is on topic is that Chuck Todd's apparently hearing some stuff about punting on Michigan.
And it was done via debate throught the RNC rules committee. The only reason why it's on TV for the dems is because they royally ********ed up the first time, not because the Democratic party are some great stewards of public confidence and champions of democracy.
I'm glad they're late coming back. I just got to watch a beautiful shuttle launch. It's kind of stunning how routine and workaday the space shuttle has become.
Well, the Clintons are relative newcomers to the game of stealing elections. You have to cut them a little slack for being so sloppy at it.
My point, which you obviously missed, and to which I absolutely admit a bias is that the Reeps would never be this transparent. I am not talking specifically about this, it's a general point. As I said, firstly a Reep problem like this would never be televised and secondly it would be decided by a back room deal rather than debate. And my biased point again that I was making, was the the Democrats are throwing their processes open to all, in all their sins and glories. They aren't claiming perfection, an inability to admit errors or not brokering dissenting views. They are sunlighting the whole process so when they do arrive at a decision, it will be transparent. And my biased point is that this is not the inclination of the Reeps.
