Typical Brazilians. Those guys also are always setting up fireworks all night next to the hotel where our guys are sleeping the night before the big match.

If Schumer would schedule a vote to remove….NJ would have a new senator by Friday.

Gotta wait at least until Butler is sworn in.

Sinema doesn't really count as a reliable Dem vote.

Schumer needs a majority, and he won't have one without Butler. It's math. There are only 50 Democrats or D-caucusers, and without Sinema the vote fails.

So putting the entire GOP Senate on record for voting to NOT expel a Dem senator who has 1)been indicted and 2) 48 or 49 Dem senators voted TO expel is a bad thing? And exposing Sinema to AZ voters is also a BAD thing?
    Got it.

Oh…since you’re such a stickler for math now…how many votes does it take to expel a senator? And when you answer that mathematical conundrum, try answering my question without being an arrogant prick.

I'm not denying that from time to time it's possible I'm an AP...but I don't see it this time.

As for your other point...to me, it's an open question whether it would be a good thing or not for a motion to expel Menendez to fail with 49 GOPs + Sinema winning 50-49. Look at the conservative media bias thread, or the tweet thread, or various blogs...the political media reports things that CLEARLY are not "both sides" as "both sides." It's only in the last 24-48 hours that I've started to see some put the House disarray on a specific party rather than the "Washington is dysfunctional" bullshit explanation that we have always seen.

It's like alot of your Garland posts...it seems to me that alot of your posts take things with texture and nuance and try to make them too simple. This is an example...you're taking it for granted that voters that matter (swing voters, and low-motivation partisans) would blame the GOPs in that scenario. You MIGHT be right, but I don't see how you can be sure. I don't even see how you can be confident it's likely.

I mean, we know for a fact there are Trump fanatics who only vote when Trump is on the ballot...that's why GOPs underperformed polls in 2018, when pollsters missed the electorate, then overperformed in 2020 because the pollsters missed the electorate, and then WILDLY underperformed in 2022 because the pollsters...well, you get it now. Those are low motivations voters, and anyone who votes for Trump except on the abortion issue is by definition an idiot.

So, again, in my view it's very much an open question that Menendez surviving 50-49 with 49 GOPs and Sinema would have been a good thing or a bad thing for Republicans.

It takes a two-thirds vote to expel a Senator. Did everyone except for diablodelsol miss that?

I wonder if GQP senators would vote along with the dems to oust him? You'd think they would, except they might not just to spite any Dem initiative.

But the discussion about whether Butler is available for the vote is kind of irrelevant. Either Republicans vote to save him or they don't. The same for Democrats - hopefully they are united against corruption but why not get them all on the record, Republicans and Democrats alike? The vote should be close to unanimous, in which case we get a new useful non-corrupt (or at least not yet) Senator from New Jersey. If the vote breaks on party lines, then Menendez gets to stick around for a while longer, but the record shows that one party is clearly in favor of corruption and that can be used against them in upcoming elections (as if it makes a difference).

There hasn't been a vote, but reporters were telling us they are against expelling him.

It would set a crappy precedent. He really should resign. Expel should happen if there’s a guilty verdict and he still doesn’t resign. He’s awful for the brand.

for the record…I was referring to the question I previously posed in which you decided to answer when it wasn’t addressed to you. Why does it matter whether or not you lose a piece of shit like Sinema? The correct answer is it doesn’t….because you even with a unanimous Dem vote you STILL need 17 GOP senators. If Sinema wants to be Team Criminal….more power to her. If the GOP wants to be Team Criminal…more power to them. But by not even having the vote….Schumer is Team Criminal.

and one more thing…I almost edited my “arrogant prick” to condescending prick. It’s way more accurate.

This didn't make the news back in 2018.

    And it's Ba-goda not Bo-go-ta

The wife of indicted U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez fatally struck a pedestrian in a small Bergen County town in 2018, but was found not at fault in the crash linked to a federal corruption and bribery case against the couple, according to police records cited in multiple published reports.

Nadine Arslanian Menendez was not charged in the Dec. 12, 2018 crash in Bogota, according to court records.

But federal corruption charges brought against the senator, his wife and a trio of New Jersey businessmen brought renewed scrutiny to the couple. Details of the crash, which drew no attention at the time, were first reported Wednesday by NorthJersey.com.

It is embarrassing that Schumer’s cowardice has removed my ability to call out the GOP for not expelling this guy without being a raging hypocrite
