I hope somebody called you on this stupidity. (As I read though, nope.) One is about physical property. The other is about human behavior. It's New Jersey. You sure about that? All kidding, Menendez needs to resign. With that said, I don't expect anything until either the spending bill is passed, or the shutdown has ended. And I think this is why we haven't seen a lot of Dems in the Senate come out and call for resignation. Calling for resignation does not mean he will resign.
Pelosi: given our situation today…he should resign. It’s nice that there is at least one national dem leader that isn’t terrible at their job.
How bout some good ol' 'Merican heartland failure? Lebanon, OH school principal tell poors "you don't get no stinkin' ice cream!" This is so fucking wrong on so many levels. Who the fuck are these people and why are they in education? pic.twitter.com/8jWmsOPiL3— crunchyrugger (@crunchyrugger) September 22, 2023
Not my hill but the fact we mandate that children must be in school but don't pay for their meals and instead they have to pay out of pocket for it is insane. That there are children who can't graduate because of debt is insane. We provide (bad) food to other people we mandate have to be in certain places (ie correctional facilities). Why can't we do it for children? Why is it ok to prevent children from accessing perks based upon their financial status? Everything school related should be $0 at point of service. Everything.
This is how you redistribute the wealth, Randians! Massachusetts' new budget will provide free school lunches for K-12 students, thanks to an additional 4% income tax on state residents' incomes above $1 million. The extra tax, known as the Fair Share Amendment, was approved by voters in November 2022. It is generating an extra $1 billion for the state. Of that, $224 million will go to K-12 programs, including free lunch and implementing "clean energy" in schools, the governor's office said. https://www.npr.org/2023/08/18/1194424563/free-school-lunch-massachusetts
Most of the world works that way, most of the world has barely enough money to educate, meals are not part of the education. Sure higher property taxes could pay to provide meals, we are much wealthier than the rest of the world, people just need to vote to increase their property taxes.
I'm puzzled? Did you not see the word failure in my post? Of course it is a failure-- but it doesn't look to me as though anyone voted for it outside of one or two offices somewhere.
Hats off to the People's Socialist Revolutionary Republic of Taxachusetts, a.k.a. The Kremlin on the Charles! Suck on that, New Hampshite, enjoy your raw hot dogs for lunch!
Yes, meals are part of education. Kids who are hibitually hungry do poorer in schools. It is the responsibility of schools to provide food for the kids, and kids should not be charged. At any income level. That doesn't work in poorer locations, where property taxes are already very high, and make it a prohibitive issue for home ownership by poorer people. In fact, schools should not be funded based on property tax. It actually should come from the federal government. I say that due to the transient nature of our population.
Since your post (in the last 24 hours) there has been a number of Dems that have come out calling for his resignation. The fact that Menendez wasn't even able to defend himself when it comes to explaining the gold bars might have been the clincher. Hope he falls hard.
We've had some RFK backers on this board. Any of them care to defend his recent refusal to say that al-Qaeda was behind the 9/11 attacks? https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/sep/26/robert-kennedy-jr-september-11-podcast-peter-bergen
I'd say it is a democratic failure that voters haven't approved this and a Democratic failure that they haven't passed something at the federal level when they've had the chance. It's not like this is a new issue. But, you're probably right that this isn't appropriate as we dont have a specific failure of the current Dems to talk about. So, move along. Move along.
See post above yours. We tax our rich assholes for better things for the masses. how it worked post WWII until Ronnie decimated the middle class with tax cuts for the rich assholes & corps. You may be too young to remember.
A local restaurant paid the $400 and change debt. The school principal and presumably the PTA are a bunch of A**holes.
Well school lunches are now paid with richpipo money in Mass. And who knows, they just might benefit from non-starving students becoming highly educated (it's generally rated in the top 3 for public education) and contributing to the workforce in the future
For those on Bluesky criminal defence attorney Ken White has posted that DOJ is like to treat a Menendez resignation as a bargaining chip in any plea bargain. Popehat @kenwhite.bsky.social · By the way: one reason for any politician not to resign up front is holding on to the resignation as a bargaining chip in plea-bargaining. Though I suspect Menendez will go to trial again.
