http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A41884-2002Oct4.html Just when I think I may vote for the Democrats, they do something to change my mind. What idiocy.
an animated image.... Dan Quayle and Murphy Brown, George Bush I and the Simpsons - why do Republicans hate fictional characters so much? This definitely falls under the heading of "F em if they can't take a joke."
So when the Reps decide to depict a Demo politician raping someone to show how they are "raping the taxpayers" will your attitude be the same? Both of the major parties continue to bring our political discourse lower and lower. But hey, its only about winning, not the country right?
It's a friggin political cartoon. Satirical political cartoons have a 200 year tradition of being pointed, tasteless, and, yes, funny. Meanwhile, this ridiculous "issue" took the headlines away from a REAL issue, whereby thousands of REAL flesh and bone soldiers might be sent to a foreign country where they will REALLY be murdered. Some people need a REALITY check.
Now that is what I call a smokescreen! No, it is not a satirical cartoon, it is an attack ad on the Democratic Party's own web site. Aren't they the same folks who brought us the anti-Goldwater Mushroom Cloud ad? Isn't this just a little Willie Hortonesque? By the way, our soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines will not be murdered. If they have to do this mission, they will clean Hussein's clock. The only truly scary issue is the 10-15 year occupation which will follow. Why are Democrats (GOP not much better) so dogmatic that you can't admit that something is tasteless and lowers the level of political discourse in the country?
Dan Quayle and Murphy Brown, George Bush I and the Simpsons - why do Republicans hate fictional characters so much? I think any initial rancor over the Simpsons faded away a long time ago. In fact, Bill Simon is using Mr. Burns on his campaign site: Gov. Davis and Mr. Burns comparison (PDF File)
That Democrats would get on this forum and defend that ad causes me to lose even more of what little respect I had left for them. This is one of the most tasteless (if not THE most tasteless) ads I have ever seen.
Is someone trying to insinuate that Bush actually is killing seniors by pushing them off of cliffs? Man, I knew that Bush was evil, but now he's killing poor feeble widows in wheelchairs -- how grotesque! You are certifiably nuts if you think that a cartoon is equivalent to the Horton ad. Does it not disturb you that the plan as it's being described will require such a long occupation because we don't have an end strategy? I will admit here and elsewhere when Democrats are not playing fair, but this is not worth getting worked up over. It's a friggin' CARTOON, eejit. Do you think that Wile E. Coyote has really been killed that many times?
Some people will take any excuse to vote for the party that ran the astoundingly racist and vile "Willie Horton" ads. Go figure.
So I don't understand, did he kill an old lady or not? See, because I don't understand. I am a frickin' moron.
Re: Re: Demo Ad Depicts Bush Murdering Senior Citizen Wrong again Joe. I'm Independent and was starting to lean toward the Demos (primarily over the Iraq issue) but when the party's own web site uses such dirty (Hortonesque) campaign tactics my doubt returns. Still looking for a party with scruples....
Re: Re: Re: Demo Ad Depicts Bush Murdering Senior Citizen No doubt that Babs was behind this ad. She is still pissed about the South Park episode and she decided to fight fire with fire.
Short answer: No. Long enough answer: Gore brought up the furlough program. Lee Atwater brought up Willie Horton. Note to Republicans: Call your bank. Your reality checks have bounced.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Demo Ad Depicts Bush Murdering Senior Citizen Oh, so the producers of South Park are just a secret wing of the GOP? What a great disguise!
Re: Re: Demo Ad Depicts Bush Murdering Senior Citizen I'm not sure which is funnier, watching the Democrats defend this stupid attack ad or the Republicans defending Falwell's idiocy on Islam.
