    From the Washington Post:
    ********
"Asked about the incident yesterday after practice at the RFK auxiliary field, Kovalenko told The Post: "I'm not apologizing for anything because I didn't do anything wrong. I feel real bad for him, but that happens in a game. I can't believe anyone would think I would do it intentionally. I was just trying to block the cross."

Added United Coach Ray Hudson: "I think it's being cynical, biased and a little naive to think there was full intention on Dema's part to hurt the kid. It wasn't that way at all. . . . Dema did everything he could to stop the cross, and I still cannot figure [after watching the replay several times] how it led to the break, but it did. It's terribly unfortunate, but there was no malicious intent as far as I can see."
    *********
Hey Dema. That is almost an exact quote on the LAST TIME YOU BROKE AN OPPONENT'S LEG....

Fess up you punk. You were pissed that Ronnie beat you, then got away with possibly handling the ball and was going to goal and you made a reckless tackle. You gutless pig. After snapping the leg bones of TWO players at some point you are going to have to realize that you have a problem.

    LEG BREAKER!!

Whether he "intended" to break anyone's leg is not germane. What is germane is the patent recklessness with which he tried to block the cross. Kovalenko and Hudson seem to be arguing that, so long as Kovalenko's hear was pure, "it's all good." Not so. A patently, consistently reckless player, like Kovalenko, is every bit as dangerous on the field as one prone to sporadic maliciousness.

I have broken a persons leg in soccer. It wasn't intentional, but it happened. Your a moron if you think the guy would go around and try breaking playes legs on purpose. A simpleton moron. It is a small pool of players in the MLS. I don't the rest fo the players would stand for it if they knew that to be the case. Use some common sense.... Oh wait liberals can't think for themselves, I forgot they need to be told what to think.

George W. tells Republicans what to think, and they blindly follow.....

Wait, I thought this thread was about Dema? Oh yeah, I'm a DC fan, but Dema is a dirty punk. I thought so when he played for Chicago and, just because he wears a DC uniform now, my mind has not changed.

Dema and Hristo are going to get what's coming to them.

How do you know it wasn't intentional? Because Dema says so? Who's telling who what to think? Intention is irrelavant. Action and results are relevant.

The fact is he has broken 2 players legs and plays with a reckless abondon that will lead to more players being injured because he sees nothing wrong with what he did.

I am pissed off that we will miss a season (if not more) of watching the skills of a very talented player due to the careless and reckless actions of a thug bastard who if it were up to me, I would toss out of MLS tomorrow.

MLS needs more players like Ronnie Obrien and fewer players like Kovalenko.

I am sad and mad at Derma's tackle. That was not a 50/50 ball, and the way he went in was just horrible. The league will announce its decision on Thursday, and I hope he got some wacks on his head.

He must be a record holder on the number of legs he has broken in MLS.

It wasn't possibly handling the ball, it clearly hit off his hand....not that has anythign to do with the tackle..but still get your facts straight. I feel for Ronnie O'brien he seems like a class guy and is a dangerous exciting player to watch. I've watched the replay and agree with Hudson you can't really see how his leg was broken although it was unfortunate that it happened.

Let the discipline be decided by the league and the people that are supposed to review these incidents....lets quit with the immaturity, name calling and threats of violence..just makes you look foolish.

That's funny! I always thought it was conservatives that needed to be told how to think and they are rarely accused of using any common sense! Anyway, Dema deserves to be suspended for breaking O'Brien's leg like he was when he broke Brandon Pollard's leg in 1999.

The worst part is about how he said he "would not apologize." Ok maybe he didn't mean to do it, but you still apologize. I have done lots of things "by accident" that I apologized for. The fact that he shows no remorse is the most sickening thing of all.

    Link to video of tackle?

I didn't see the play in question. Does anyone have a URL that has a clip of it?

Also, how often are legs broken in professional soccer? How many would be too many in an MLS season? Would three or four broken legs in the 160 games played this year be a reasonable guess, or would it be more? Or is that ratio, 1 leg broken per 40 games, too low?

    Two Time Offender

It seems that some of you are forgetting, for whatever reason, that is the SECOND time Dema has broken the leg of an opponent with a reckless tackle after getting beat to the ball.

Is there anyone else in MLS that has broken the leg of an opponent, much less TWICE?

You people are missing my point: Dema is a reckless player, and via that a LEG BREAKER.

If ya light cigarettes while you are filling your car up with gas, and you blow up the station, I am sure you didn't "mean to do it" but you are a dumbass for letting it happen.

So stop sticking up for the guy and admit that this was his fault and ONLY his fault.
