Bradley says trade Dema for Carrieri:

Is it too early to start the Chris Carrieri to DC United rumor? How about Carrieri for Dema Kovalenko? Seems DC coach Ray Hudson is calling for a striker with a little bit of an arrogant edge and Carrieri's certainly got that. Meanwhile, Colorado could certainly use Kovalenko in the attacking midfield to spice things up. And if DC and Colorado don't want to make this deal, it seems to me (remember, I do coach my son's U-7 team) that Hudson should consider using Kovalenko as a striker and hope he can regain his old scoring touch. On DC's current roster, there is no more accomplished MLS scorer than Dema, who looks like a fish out of water in defensive midfield.

An arrogant edge only means something if you've got talent. Otherwise you're just a tosser.

    Bingo...

This guy thinks he's way better than he is. I'm telling you right now whatever harmony there is in the DC locker room (and I've heard they all genuinely get along) would go out the window if this tool comes into town.

Tru dat! I do think Carrerri has the talent. He was bagging goals last year. I don't Hankinson wants him around, though. DC could use a shot in the arm up front.

do this do this do this.

well speaking of tossers, a certain someone recently said "right now we're just playing with ourselves," so he'll fit right in...

but seriously let's score some goddam goals--carrieri is dying to do just that, whereas most of our team seems to be dying to keep (often meainingless) posession.

trading dema sounds a-ok to me.

He also had Valderamma setting him up for more than a few of those.

I don't know. It could unite the team since they'd all have the common ground of hating the little whiny guy who won't shut up.

If we trade Dema, then we'll only have 3 players who want to play central, attacking midfield. What would we do if all 3 get hurt?

    Yes, I'm being sarcastic.

Never thought of it that way...okay, then, let's bring him in, and the players can take turns whipping his *ss like they apparently did when he was in San Jose. :)

First, while Colorado is probably eager to do the deal, I don't think it would happen. While they might be interested in Kovalenko, he's not a playmaking midfielder, he's a holding midfielder to support an A-mid like an Etcheverry or Nowak.

Second, I think Carrieri benefited tremendously from Valderamma. Look at how weak that attack is now (despite having a better Mastroeni, a healthy Spencer, Zizi Roberts, etc.). El Pibe, love him or hate him, might have had the best vision and shortrange passing game in all of MLS last year. Chung, Spencer, Carrieri, and Henderson all look must less effective this year without Valderama.

Third, if Carrieri came here, it means Quaranta and Eskandarian would sit. Remember, Carrieri is mouthing off b/c he isn't playing 90 minutes or b/c he played a match at right midfield. To compare, this would be the equivalent of Quaranta blasting Hudson publicly b/c he isn't playing 90 minutes or has been pulled back to left mid the last 2 games. And we think Quaranta is moody or had an attitude problem--he's an altar boy compared to Carrieri.

And last of all, besides the harmony issues (yes, good strikers can be jerks. But not all jerks are good strikers--see Diallo and Serna from last year), do we really see someone that small as the answer to our target issues? Remember, this team has a bunch of guys who like the ball at their feet and prefer to face the goal, not play with their back to it. The rap on Colorado last year (besides: El Pibe doesn't defend) is that their frontline was all a bunch of smurfs and they needed a bigger, physical target man. I'd much rather give Eskandarian some PT than acquire Carrieri.

The ideal player for this team would be...Brian McBride. I know, I know--no way it would happen (for a zillion reasons). But he's a good, classy guy, works hard (ie: good example for young strikers), doesn't whine (another good example for young players), defends (uh...a good example), wins 50-50 balls, is strong in the air, a good target man, fine at laying off the ball to overlapping runners, excellent runs off the ball. When you look at all that and think Carrieri, I'm left with a very bad taste in my mouth.

So what if we insert Dema in for Hernandez in the quote from Bradley's article and get Bobby Rhine? Rhine has a better personality than Carrieri. Or is Rhine too similar to Santino?

Ouch, nothing like getting ridiculed by a guy that needs rides from his parents to get to games :)

Better! But there was a key detail you overlooked... it wasn't MY sister that got filled like a blank check :)

--On a peripheral topic though, Deez should bring his sister by the Barra tailgates. Someone in a DC shirt needs to score this year... may as well be me :)
