So, you want to organize a soccer tournament? Don't be a witness! http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?section=news/local&id=8728451 http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/3-Dead-in-Del-Soccer-Tourney-Shooting-161809905.html Well, at least it wasn't about the score, or a ref's decision ...
The comments are awesome! 3 grapeape00000 7/8/12 5:28 PM EDT This sport has the ability to transform just about any location its played into a third world armpit primarily due to the types of people that worship it so highly. Mark As ViolationQ
Other than the victims being at a youth soccer game, this appears to have nothing to do with the soccer game. Seems more like a drive by with someone being targeted (and the target firing back and killing one of the attackers)...
The intended target was the organizer of the tournament! Well, at least it wasn't like Brazil: http://www.montrealgazette.com/news...mmemorating+football+teams/6923309/story.html
And? If they'd come after him while he was in a barn, "farming" wouldn't be such a big part of the story. The same ought to be true of football.
For better or worse, all the headines referred to this as "soccer shootings". If it happened at a square dance, the headlines would read "5 shot at square dance". There were national headlines last year, about a SF Giants fan beaten unconscious after a game.
There has been many soccer riots here mostly involving ethnic teams. One of the worst I have seen involved an adult Albanian team called the New York Albanians from the Bronx. You risk your life when you play against these guys. Bad youth game riot involved a under 19 team a local club team sponsored by the great George Weah. After the third consecutive fight they were thrown out of the league. His wife lived in queens.
Every time someone goes nuts with a gun and starts popping caps from a tower, the only occupation worthy of noting is "Ex-Marine." You can't win.
Actually, the victim didn't shoot back (because he was dead). It was spectators who pulled out guns and shot back. They killed the getaway driver. So don't mess with Union fans.

Hmmm, guess some people did. I hadn't heard that expressed that way. I stand corrected. Still, that DE shooting had absolutely nothing to do with soccer or even soccer fans, just cheap headline writers.
Not sure if they're trying to blame soccer, or Mother Nature, here: http://www.myfoxhouston.com/story/1...ported-after-lightning-strike-on-soccer-field
