With your defensive problems, I'm just curious if
    1) you'd consider trading Convey
    2) who would you be willing to give up for:
    Heaps
    Kante
    Pierce
    Llamosa
    Joseph
    Franchino

What about a Heaps or Kante, plus Kamler? Who could the Revs get for that? I just want to see if there's any trades that both Revs and DC fans see as reasonable.

Well, enjoy another year of watching Rimando flop around trying to make 20 saves a game then. Seriously, I would not give up Convey for pretty much anything if I was DC either. But I'm sure you can pick a few names off that roster that would be a fair trade for one of the Revs defenders.

    Eliseo Quintanilla

    Rusty Pierce

Kante is a SI and United has no room.

Look in-house before going to the out-house

David Stokes is a natural man marker who can certainly cover the defensive responibilities as well as Reyes did. He won't provide as much going forward but rule one for a defender is defend. Ray has had nothing but praise for Stokes so way not put him out there? He can't become another Pope from the bench.

I didn't think of the SI implications. Who would it take to get Kovalenko?

Kovalenko isn't going anywhere, other then that Shawn has that list perfect no one other then those few will be offered for a trade. I would have added Prideux and Namoff, but right now we need to keep any defender we have.

I agree. Many young defenders have done well in MLS and those guys available in Columbus and NE are not super stars. He has two guys with some experience around him.

I seriously doubt that Devin will be traded because A. he's injured and B. he hasn't proven himself valuable to DCU.

Eliseo might have proven himself too valuable as a scorer and a midfield strength with his improvement.

Chino and Ali are much more logical as trades - but who can we get for them? 2 for the price of 1??

Hmmmn. Kamler would be a good short-term fix, and he might not mind coming back to DC--he played for us in the Nov. friendly against Q2's old Salva team.

Kante is untouchable given his Revs' status and DCU history, and yes, you Revs fans should be gloating over that. And I, for one, could never forgive Pierce for the dive in the '01 U.S. Open.

Rookie defenders have a bad track record in MLS, from Steve "Psychedelic" Shak on down. I feel good enough about Stokes and Namoff that I wouldn't consider jettisoning anyone above the Chino-bar for short-term help, but a Kamler or Oughton would help w/ depth.

I'd be very surprised if the Revolution gave up anybody to help a conference rival.

Thats what I was going to say, but I think Nelsen and Oughton held there own as well when they played in the back line as rookies

Nelsen played D-mid most of his rookie season, and didn't do well at all.

The Kamlers have moved to NE full time now. I don't believe they kept any residence in this area and might be skeptical about coming and playing under RH, who could trade him for a 3rd time.

Well, there was that 6-player deal with a conference rival last year that worked out pretty good for you guys.

    Re: Re: Re: Defensive help

    Thank you.

Toss in Rusty Pierce (29 starts as a rook), Dan Califf (16 starts, missed a lot of time for the Olympics), Jeff Stewart (20 starts last year), our own Mike Petke (25 starts in 98), Jim Curtin (12 starts in 2000) and Kelly Gray (Rookie-of-the-Year runner-up last year splitting time between back and MF.)

I think there's more than enough precedent to suggest that Stokes could do OK. Does that mean he's ready? No, that depends on how he's handling the adjustment to the pros. But, others have certainly done it and there's no reason Stokes couldn't do it if given the chance.

    Certainly.

Starting Stokes might cost you short term (re: Gbandi vs. Kline growing pains), but if he's got the goods it will only help you out in the long term.
