We would be absolutely foolish to expect ESR to continue at this rate until the end of the season, be it he has a form dip or an injury or needs a rotation.

We need a CAM, a GK and a LB because injuries in those 3 positions put us back to the form we had in December last year.

Plus against bad teams we could use a second creative player to break down the low block.

I'd prefer we sign a young CM in the 20m range - they need to homegrown

personally i doubt we get that player this month

I'd rather recall Douzy than take a flakey loan

When it comes to the more expensive signings to improve the starting XI, I do not at all care about them being homegrown. It's an added bonus, but nothing more.

Once we get rid of the deadwood, let's fill the depth charts with younger players an HG players if possible, but when it comes to the starting XI, give me the 50m world-class talent over the 20m HG potential.

Tbh, I think Ozil's reputation was raised a lot by his absence. He played like crap not infrequently. I think it was bullshit that he was left out, but I don't think he was the answer. ESR is a much better fit

But we don't have space in the squad - that's the problem

Well yeah - i meant only that we already had a back up player

But in any event, sorting out the balance of the squad will take a while because we signed too many players we can't use, and now we can't shift them

At least Ozil/Kola will free up some head space, but it still leaves Sokratis, Mozzer, Douzi, LT, Xhaka, Willian, Pepe in terms of players we need to sell ASAP

Ozil exit piece - well balanced on the whole

However I must say, these pieces tend to ignore truths contained in their own content.

In other words, playing with elite midfielders Cazorla and Rosicky, Ozil added an extra dimension? I mean I remember us playing Bayern and old Rosicky came on, and even then, he could beat the press so easily because his technique and vision was amazing. We haven't had a midfielder as good as peak Rosicky in years!

In other words, like the data has shown consistently since 2010 - Ozil never was lazy

It was a bullshit meme from the UK media

The future for Ozil was clear for anyone who watched him and Toni Kroos dominate midfield for Germany in EC2016. Dropping deeper, pulling the strings, and using his passing range. But he'd never be the guy to dominate the ball - Kroos did that. Ozil was all about the half space, linking play, and key passes. Instead Wumger tried to convert him into a forward as Arsenal went into a steady decline.

Sadly his peak years were wasted on a poor side. And as the data shows, it was the outputs of Alexis, Ozil and Giroud that really propped that team up. Once Alexis left - the team was bad.

Ornstein previously said we have no interest in Eriksen but I'm now seeing rumors that Inter wants to propose a Eriksen for Torreira swap.

Torreira has value in a normal market, Eriksen does not. Bad trade.

Agreed. What we must not do is take on more dumb contracts

This is an unmitigated disaster, and is perhaps the second most important Arsenal story of the last five years.

This is true. ESR is 20, playing his first season at the top level, has a lengthy injury history, and needs his workload carefully managed. That someone, e.g. Odegaard, would take minutes away from ESR is a positive, not a negative.

This is unworkable. If you're signing someone who should meet HG numbers, they're either playing in England now or are 18. If in England now, you're getting someone mediocre for that price. If 18, 20 million gets you someone two years away from playing fulltime.

We should extend ESR contract this summer and give him the #8 when Ceballos leaves. ESR is our new Ramesy

Tons of smoke regarding Odegaard to Arsenal on loan.

Also seeing a link for Mustafi to Lazio.

We gotta make sure he isn't actually our new Ramsey, which is why we need another player in his position to lighten the minutes load

Ornstein reporting it now, too, said Edu has been in talks since last week. If Odegaard can play on the right, you could basically go with 6 guys for 4 positions.

    ST - Laca/Auba/Martinelli
    LW - Auba/Martinelli/Saka
    AW - ESR/Odegaard
    RW - Saka/Odegaard

You could rotate pretty freely and have each one starting 2 of every 3 matches. Plus plenty of sub appearances. Willian is still there as a 10 or RW, but isn't relied upon. Pepe...he probably needs to play to maintain his value but I don't know that Arteta wants to play him. Nelson and Nketiah could go on loan.

And not let him run his contract down before getting €400k per week elsewhere.

If Arteta isn't liking him we really either need to use him in swap this window or try to loan him out to a club that will highlight his positives so we can get better return this summer.
