Can anybody tell me about Deco? Why he took Portuguese Citizenship? It looks like the form he is in at present, he could be in Brazilian NT. As a player in the Portuguese NT, his chances of winning a world cup is slim to none. What was his motivation? Even if he took the Portuguese citizenship, couldn't he play for Brazilian NT?

Deco was one of many Brazilians playing in Portugal. In fact, nobody in Brazil noticed him until he took the Portuguese citizenship influenced by another Brazilian, L. F. Scolari. Deco already said at the time that he knew he had no chance with the Seleção Brasileira. He is aware of his own capacity.

I don't think so. He is overhyped.

It's not possible by Fifa rules, since he is a Portuguese player now. And he seems happy with his new citizenship. Good luck to him!

He has never been noticed here in brazil, and Im afraid he wouldnt ever if he stayed here. He is too average for Brazil NT.

But Alex of Fenerbahce and Juninho of Lyon have played for Brazil and Deco is surely at their standard, no?

It is a matter of opinion, but I would put both Juninho and Alex in a higher standard than deco.

Deco has developed into one of the top players in the World. He knows how to win and is a leader on the pitch. The main reason he decided to play for the Portuguese NT was because of Scolari's influence and the fact that Potugal had become Deco's home. Deco's game developed into what it is today by the experience he had in the Portuguese Superliga.

He could not have been on the Brazilian NT a few years ago, but at the moment in his current form he would at least have a chance of making it.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Portugal has as good a chance as many of the Top teams after Brasil of course which is by far the favorite.

  9. deco would never play on the brazilian nt not half good enought not even in the copa america

Deco would surely start for the Brazilian NT right now. In fact, there is no brazilian player better than Deco at his position.

give him some credit, he is better then alex, JP and baptista and as a porto fan i wish diego could do the job deco did, he is playing well but not close to surpassing him, the way kaka has been playing this season, i think deco would have a good case for NT selection.

To say Deco would never play for Brasil is silly. I would love to believe only great players wear the yellow jersey but we all know that injuries, suspensions, club commitments, etc... force every national team coach to reach lower into his pool of players than he would like. Deco is better than some players who have worn the yellow jersey over the past two years and he would have been given a chance.

However, I will repeat what I said in the thread about Diego. Deco is a nice player who the media in Europe is getting completely carried away with. Whenever a team wins a major tournament, people tend to overrate the individual players. Greece has like 6 finalists for the Golden Ball. Do you really think Greece has 6 of the top 50 players in the world???? You Porto fans can worship Deco all you want but no Brasilian has lost any sleep over him. He is simply not that good.

That is understandable since he left Brasil at a young age and because Brasil has plenty of talented players.

But he fact is that he developed into a very good player and there's no escaping that. One UEFA Cup and a CL win in consecutive years; a very promising season start at Barcelona. All signs of a great player are there.

Maybe Im wrong, but this aversion to Deco just seems to have a little of national pride to it.

Deco has nothing on players like Baptista and Kaka. Diego has much more potential than Deco as well. Just give him a little time to settle in. I really don't understand how people can overrate Deco the way they do. Neither his play nor his character exhibit any class whatsoever.

I understand why it might seem that way but trust me it is not. There are Brasilian-born players spread all over the world representing different countries. Germany has a forward who recently scored a goal against Brasil. My attitude has always been if that is choice they made, god bless them. As I told you in the other thread, there are two very different schools of thought on Deco. I have spoken to people from different countries who think he is a great, and plenty of people who think he is garbage. His style of play is not for everybody.

:D Have you watched Barcelona play? Do you think Deco and Ronaldinho play the same position? The same goes for Kaka.

I think Deco is slightly better than both Juninho P. and Alex, basically because Deco also helps a lot in defence (he's a quite dirty player BTW). Diego has tons of potential but he's not there yet. Baptista is a completely different type of player, he plays as a forward for Sevilla.

Don't forget that last season Porto defeated Lyon in the champions league with Deco playing his part with assists and Juninho nowhere to be found.Deco is a fine player with good vision, a good range of passing, long and short,a good crosser,he works hard which is an overlooked aspect of his game, his finishing isn't great but when he gets it right(like againest celtic in the champions league)its spectacular. In my opinion he could play for Brazil.

  25. he sucks brazilo doesnt need them

all the brazileans seem to forget renato

even edilson is better than deco
