    Dear Bill Walton,

    I hate you.

Granted, I'm not exactly what you'd call a fan of the NBA. I am, however, a fan of most sports in general and will on occasion take in an NBA game if there's nothing else on. I tune in, sit through the game, then go on with my life. I usually don't take anything away from that viewing experience, but don't really have any ill-will towards it either. It's just another sport on T.V. that I see every now and again.

However, because of your imitations of a guy trying to talk with his nose plugged for some reason, coupled with your complete lack of ability to speak a sentence of any redeeming merit, I simply cannot watch a single game this year. In fact, I can't even check ESPN to see what's on on weeknights anymore because of what I might be subjected to. Now I know that you don't do the commentary on every game on television, but you do do enough for me to notice that you're there. And because of your presence, I live in constant fear as I flip through my cable channels that I might stumble upon ESPN only to find you on the other side of my monitor. You have ruined my television viewing in general and must be stopped. I know for a fact that I am not alone wih these feelings, and I'm begining to think that you are a detriment to an already declining league. I may be but a casual viewer of the game, but others are more devout, and their hatred is out there as well.

You make the league simply unwatchable. Please stop being you. Please, for the good of all mankind, stop broadcasting basketball games. Please, for the good of the league, stop with that awful voice already. Please, for the good of the children, stop being an ass.

Think of the children, Bill. Think of the children.

So to recap; I hate you and you suck.

    Thanks for your time,

    Amerifolklegend.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see what is wrong with Bill Walton. I have no problem with him at all.

    Really.

He has overcome much to be able to speak, let alone work the national coverage for the NBA games. I think he is someone to admire on a personal standpoint.

That said, no matter how hard you work, years of experience or actual NBA experience, he is really not that good at what he is paid to do. He says stupid things and has smoked one too many joints.

In the second game for the Lakers, he said, 'this is a must win for the Lakers!' That was their second freaking game of the season...which is 82 games long. He has a face for radio and his son is ugly, too.

Walton is greatness. He's a geek that who has valiantly overcome stuttering.

He throws out bombs right and left, and I disagree with lots he says, but at least he throws some semi-controversial stuff out there.

    He's alright.

Walton finds the negative in every play, he very rarely gives credit to players and instead points out what the other team did wrong. He is an ass, I hate him.

Yeah, so now he's just an ass with a horribly annoying voice instead of a stuttering ass with a horribly annoying voice.

    Exactly.

Ugly people should not be allowed on television. There are enough other people in the world that can say the same stupid things that Walton says that don't resemble Eric Stoltz' character in Mask.

I can't put my hate for him into enough words, but AFL, I completely agree. He is simply horrible.

There needs to be a special hell for Bill Walton and Tim McCarver where they have to commentate themselves being hit with bricks for eternity.

"Danny Schayes, one of the greatest third string white centers in the history of the NBA..."

That's my B. Walton imitation, by the way. Here's another one:

"Terry Porter, the baldest player in the history of the NBA..."

His hyperbole must go. He must go.

The really freaky thing is, I think I'd like chillin' with Bill. I mean, he used to get ripped and then dance at Dead shows. How bad can such a person be? He just shouldn't be on T.V.

Pre-Crash, I started a thread discussing the ultimate question of all: "Who is worse: Bill Walton, or Ty Keogh." There was much agonizing, because in such war, as in all wars, there are no winners, only losers.

Sometimes I think McCarver and Walton were siamese twins seperated at birth.

    Dear afl,

As I read through your glorious post, I am reminded of an old saying:

    "I hate him, too."

Bill Walton is hilarious. He is great. I hate basketball, but I would watch a playoff game if he was doing the call.

    "What was he thinking?"

The thing I hate about Bill Walton the most is that he inexplicably made the "50 Greatest" list of NBA players. Even though all he did was have one good season in Portland, and came off the bench for a Celtic title or 2. Meanwhile, guys like Dominique Wilkins and Alex English don't make the list...

Walton making the list was more of an abomination than Pippen and Shaq (in his 2nd or 3rd year in the league) making the list...and those were pretty dumb too...

He ruined the real basketball season for me two years ago. Is there any chance he'll be doing it again, or is he strictly with ESPN now?

Bill's favorite hobby other than talking about Bill, is making an ass of himself. Often the two occur simultaneously. It's painful to listen to. I honestly feel sorry for the guy at times. He was cut down with injuries before his time. The bitterness of his broadcasts and his inclination to "self medicate" are cries for help. There is a jealous rage that rises up in him with every "what was he thinking?" that tells me he's envious of the guys out on the court and he feels cheated by the feet that failed him.

It reminds me of when Isiah Thomas was broadcasting. My college friends and I played a drinking game. Every time Isiah uttered the words Detroit, Pistons, Aguirre, Laimbeer, Chuck Daly or the phrase "player x was at my camp" or (something to that effect), we shotgunned a beer to fight off the pain.

Actually, the more a think about Walton grumbling like an old fart, the more I tend to change my opinion. What am I saying? He's just an ass.
