For 1.FC Kaiserslautern the "Week of the Truth" started with a deadline of the WC 2006- Organisation Committee. For the first time the financially close to collapsing Bundesliga club got a deadline for getting rid off the problems for the construction problems of the Fritz-Walter-Stadium. "Until the end of this year we definitely want to know if all can be realised the way it was announced and planned", said OC Vice President Wolfgang Niersbach.

Niersbach confessed to stick to Kaiserslautern as WC city, but the massive problems of the traditional team that is paying 18.2 of the 48.7 M construction caused some doubts in the OC Central in Frankfurt/Main. "Kaiserslautern's bid was first class. But currently the expression 'heap of pieces of broken glass' would be an understatement".

The security of the WC City Kaiserslautern is closely linked with the existence of the club. On Thursday Club boss Rene C Jäggi wants to present the rescuing concept of the last ranked who has about 40 M debts. "Also in the worst cases there are solutions. It is all up to the will to bring sacrifices of the participants".

An important aspect in the concept of the Swiss is a sale of the Fritz-Walter-Stadium. "The ones have to do it, who carry the whole burden. This are the participating bank houses, the city and the state. I don't assume that someone from outside is coming with a suitcase full of millions", explained the Minister President of the state Rheinland Pfalz, Kurt Beck.

The state is willing to pay the agreed sum of about 22 M. Only condition: the money may only be used for construction measures and not for lowering the debts of the club. "The Parliament only accepted the payment under the condition that there will be WC games in Kaiserslautern"

If I still lived in K-Town, I would not want thw WC there. Traffic was a pain in the ass during normal soccer games, I would hate to see what it is like during the WC.

What are the problems they are talking abpout? The stadium was expanded/refurbished about 5(?) years ago wasn't it? ARe they expanding it further? Or is it to clear area around the stadium for parking?
