I hope this isn't like MLB where every team has the exact same website just with different colors.

Hopefully they will do a better job of keeping the stats updated. I know a lot of ppl don't care about stats but how freaking hard is it for soccer sites to have up to date information on goals/assists etc. US Soccer, MLS and DC United pages have information that is like 2 yrs old, and you can't get a list that is sortable or top 10 in any category.

I third all thoughts here so far too.

Sight designs should be largely up to the individual TEAM. I cant stand the cookie cutter same site different colors/ info crap. MLS should set a few guidlines, then let each TEAM oversee most of its on look, feel, content.. etc.

The fact is in this age, a website is VERY much part of any organisations identity, both in cyberspace, and in the real world, and I would think that the teams as well as MLS would want each of its franchises to have identities that are totally unique from one another. Just MHO.

hey and how about hiring a local firm, maybe one with even, "gasp" one with united fans! but realistically, this is probably a cost cutting move by the league--it probably runs on a large content mangement system that allows each team to maintain its own site.

Oh I think that would be awesome! But alas, the chances of it, espeically involving fans, are pretty much zilch.

Most pro sports teams farm out thier website work to vendors who are not even in the same state, let alone the same city. I know the Caps website is done by Ignite Media, which I belive is located in Boston. Youd think that with all the "tech/ internet/web/computer companies here in OUR area, that at least most of the pro teams here could find LOCAL companies to handle thier online ventures. Oh well, nice thought, but usually doesnt happen, and I would agree about the cost cutting measure as well. If any leagues needs to cut costs, it would be the MLS and NHL.

    [threadjack]
(OFF TOPIC QUESTION): Does anyone here know the ration of league revenue vs player salries? IE: in the NHL, almost 80 of league revenue is eaten up by player salries. Im just curious what exactly that number is in the MLS. Thanks. [/threadjack]

Good, maybe they'll put pictures of players who actually play for the team on the front page.

Etch has been gone 5 months, yet he is still featured prominently...

Maybe its an attempt at making up for his lack of a banner at the actual stadium :D

They'll probably wipe out any archive of press releases, transactions and make sure some of the roster designations are switched back to inaccurate,

What about DCUnitedStore.com? When does that get an overhaul?

Hey Zack, I'm gonna start a CafePress store soon, if there aren't new products.

You know, I don't think I've seen Zack post here since Payne came back officially into the fold. Anyone think Kevin told him to stay away from the "internet nuts"?

I welcome these changes, I am sure the website will looks nice as does the new mlsnet.com site.

To be quite honest the united page is really rather ugly and disjointed, imo.

Agreed. While I'd also prefer that each team website not be cookie cutter, I do think that dcunited.com was a due for an overhaul.

I would also say that although all the MLB team sites are made by MLBA&M, the league probably has the best websites of any of the major sports in the US. What they lack in distinctive designs, they make up for with tons of content, especially at the top of the page where people look first. And you definitely know what MLB team's site you're at, because of the color scheme and graphics and such. So I'm not too worried.

Except aren't like 83.2% of the teams in MLS Red and Black? :)
I have to say I've never been to an MLB site, maybe I'll go check out Balmer or Seattle's sites. I think dcunited.com had some good ideas, they just didn't implement/execute/program them well, must have been an inexpensive local design company or something :) Of course the content itself relies on DC caring enough to have someone update it. As usual, according to the pre-game section of the site, we are playing SJ this weekend.
