No dogs, just chinchillas. They do chew the crap out of everything, though. If I need such a dodge in the future, I'll keep it in mind.
Could be worse. We're out of NC8 area, so we had to get the game via ESPN+, which has the NY feed and announcers. Ugh.
The NY announcers are basically figuratively giving BWP a bl0wjob the entire broadcast. I wish there were a SAP option. ...Seriously? "**************" is too much?
...and then Brillant beaten again. Move Durkin back until we get some defensive options back/sign someone.
I haven't had time to post after attending the game in ATL, but Brillant is even more inept in person than he appears on TV. I don't understand how many goals we have to concede before Olsen makes a change. Also there has got to be a better option somewhere in this league we could acquire without costing us an arm and a leg. Also Ousted plays more scared than any other pro GK I've seen in a long time. His positioning and all his decisions(i.e. catch vs punch) are about him not getting hurt, instead of taking command of his box. Even worse he's not any better with the ball at his feet than Hamid was. He might even be worse.
That's at least 2 passes in the last 10 minutes from Mattocks trying to lead Acosta that have been over hit by at least 15 yards.
Abysmal. We saw why Mattocks, despite the goal scoring this season, needed an upgrade: If he's touching the ball on our half of the field, then the ball is going to the other team. At least on the road we had an excuse.
Yes, the individual quality in defense is atrocious. But the bigger alarm for me is the general mental execution of the basics and tactical ineptitude. How Ben still has a job is mind boggling. Durkin is getting overrun, and Ben refuses to adjust. This game is desperately calling out for Arriola to stop venturing forward and come help Durkin out on both sides of the ball. Everytime Kaku gets the ball he has acres of space. Durkin is too slow, and neither of the CBs is aggressive enough to step out and smother the play. The whole defense is playing with fear. You can also see the squad construction problems. You need at least 1 or 2 attackers on the team who can win the ball. Look at how effective Red Bull's high press is. Asad, Stieber and Acosta are all soft so the opposition doesn't respect our press. They just walk through our midfield and expose the massive amounts of space between the two lines. Red Bull is letting us off the hook with poor finishing, so we still have a chance to get something out of this game. But the tactical preparation for this game is so atrocious that even a comeback win doesn't redeem the coaches in my eyes.
I love Ben. I really do. And in his defense, the moneyball bit for the past WAY TOO LONG has us at a distinct disadvantage until our revenue streams solidify. We have passable (well, not passing-able) players that are depth and fill-in, but only a handful of standouts and starter-quality. All that said, yeah, Ben is stubbornly set on a game plan, whether right or wrong. Sometimes it works, contrary to reason, sometimes it doesn't. And you can never tell which it's gonna be until the last minute.
Sigh. MLS refs gonna MLS ref. By which I mean basically $#!t on everything and leave the field at the end of the game looking smug.
Technical difficulties on the Red Bull broadcast. Not upset. At this point watching Shep talk is better than watching the game.
