This team should pop the champagne bottles at halftime, because going in only down 1 goal is a complete victory, in light of the balance of play.
We should be down a minimum of three. This is ... not great. We look like exactly what we are -- a team that relied on high pressing and causing turnovers for nearly all of its offense, but now doesn't high press like that and, accordingly, can't work the ball up from the back to save itself.
Romo is definitely a problem but who is completely giving up the wings and who is letting Orlando have free reign around the edge of the box?
I understand that we are trying to learn a new system and we should try to be patient, but we are horrible defending in transition tonight. Agree that Djeffal looks especially lost. He is running in circles and he has several turnovers in bad positions. With this line up, it seems that Ravel should come back into the #6 slot in the middle as an outlet when we are distributing from the back. He is the only one in the midfield with the composure to receive the ball in traffic. We are lucky to only trail by one. There is still hope.
With all due respect, does it matter? I saw an extensive printout on midfielders in MLS (something akin to a plus/minus chart weighing the difference in team performance when the player is on vs off the field), and Canouse was one of the worst midfielders in the league by that measure. But maybe that is my confirmation bias, as I have always thought our fanbase overrates him.
