FWIW, y'all don't have to wait for me to make my boring prematch thread every week. If someone makes one, I can sticky it later. Just saying. Stretch run of the season starts this Sunday IMO!
Okay people, my 2 year old very impressionable and amazingly gifted pronunciator is going to be at his second game, so I expect everyone to be on their best behavior. I got him a good seat for viewing directly across from most of you yahoos, but let's try to avoid the eff bombs for one match maybe? I vote for winning this game.
Asterisks don't roll off the the tongue like simply saying the word. I'll replace "f" with "ph" for the match.
I'm just glad DC United's FO plan to release Peter Nowak to destroy other eastern conference teams has worked so well. Ooops. Was I supposed to keep that quiet?
Here's hoping for an unproductive game from Danny Cruz if he gets playing time. And for a productive game from Lionard Pajoy if he gets playing time. http://www.dcunited.com/press-release/2012/08/lionard-pajoy-acquired
I make no promises, especially depending upon the ref. That may even cause a few pre-game ones to pop out, you know. Quite frankly, I expect better parenting in teaching him that it's only right to say those kinds of words around other people his own age, and never around or at adults. Except refs. And RBNY.
As noted above--let's try playing our best players. We're at home. Let's make them play our game. EDIT: In case it's not clear--that means I approve this lineup.
Is your 2 year old bi-lingual? My 2 year old son had trouble pronouncing "tr", and he often replaced that with "f". So "truck" became, well you know what is became. Nothing like walking down Connecticut Avenue and have your 2 year old shout at the top of his lungs, "Look Daddy, a big ********."
That was me as a kid too. Only we were in the post office when the truck came by so it was, "Mommy look! A mail ********!"
Wow, and Chabala is one of our best players? We really needed to make ONE big move this year -- to shore up our back line. Instead we have Korb (who has promise, but is clearly a work in progress) and Chabala as our starters for what amounts to a must win game. If we don't make the playoffs, above and beyond all things, it will be because of this weakness. The shakiness on D has made our midfield play deeper, and has hurt the flowing, dynamic play that helped us in the earlier parts of the season when IMHO we would have handled Philly or Columbus handily. I never expected the team to compete for hardware -- maybe the Open Cup, but not MLS. Still, with Robbie getting beat regularly starting early in the season, our serious wingback situation was no mystery. We had yawning chasms of time during the summer to both find and integrate a new backline player. Instead we find a retread from a team that certainly won't make the playoffs at the last minute and ask him to save our bacon. !@#$%. The FO should do better.
Chabala tracking Sheanon Williams? I don't like that match up at all. Cruz tracking Pontius, on the other hand, should be fortuitous.
Well with some of the injuries going on I would guess ... ---------------------------HAMID KORB---------DUDAR------------JAKOVIC------------CHABALA -------------------------KITCHEN NAJAR-----------------------------------------------------PONTIUS --------------------------BOSKOVIC ----------------SALIHI-------------DEROSARIO bench : Willis, McDonald, Neal, Saragosa, DeLeon, Tan, Pajoy
Russell and Woolard are out for this game, aren't they? I was focusing on the attack admittedly, but I should have specified "best AVAILABLE." You won't find many posts from me praising the backline this season.
Even if Russell gets healthy I don't think he should automatically start for us. He has been pretty awful.
They each have their strengths and weaknesses. Russell isn't fast enough (anymore) to get forward, and to recover if he is caught up-field. If he were to "stay-at-home," he would be a decent defender on the right. Also, he played pretty decent as an emergency central defender when needed, IIRC. That may be his best position going forward. Outside fullbacks need good motors, and Russell doesn't have it anymore, IMHO. Korb has a pretty good motor, and is decent getting forward, but doesn't pay attention to getting back all the time, thus trails the (defensive) play a lot. Also, Korb is not as good a man-marker as Russell (especially on set pieces), and tends to leave too much room for his mark to get off crosses from his side. Can he improve? He'd better start showing that he can. I thought he was promising last year. This year, he may have improved slightly, but not enough to really lock down the LFB position, again - IMHO.
