So another game thread on game day. A new coach (who will be passing notes down to Chad Ashton), no new players and an 8 o'clock start on a weekday. Maybe 6,000 present (I'll be there). Given the developments of this week, I have no idea what the formation will be or who will start. Guediri got an MLS contract this week to replace Smith on the roster -- who cares. The result will be more respectable than Friday. Say 3-1 Columbus as Rooney realizes this dog's breakfast of a team is even worse than he thought (and apparently he watched the Philly game live).

Thanks for the thread. I have really not been paying as much attention to knowing when games are coming up as I should be. I am becoming a bad fan :)

So, I guess it's positive at this point in the season to only lose by 2 instead of by a touchdown, so I'll go along with that but guess 4-2 instead.

Hopefully someone besides Taxi scores at least one of the 2.

I wonder if that had anything to do with the complete lack of any tactics, especially defensive positioning or effort; like "the coach" was worried about other things.

If named assistant coach, I will bring in a remedial math/geometry/physics teacher to show players how round balls travel thru air when kicked, and how to calculate an angle to get to where the ball is going instead of only ever playing where an opponent goes instead. Maybe emphasize putting the ball out in front of where someone is running instead of waiting for them to stop running and turn to look back at you before you're comfortable passing the ball.

The last game taught me that I can't be optimistic, even with players knowing that this is an audition until Rooney gets his visa. We'll go down 2-0.You can't shine shit.

I'm somehow on an email list from the Crew - either for buying DCU or USMNT tickets for a game at the old Crew Stadium some years ago

"The Crewsletter" they sent out yesterday began with this sentence: "A comeback win, a six-match unbeaten streak, two-straight sellouts at home, an All-Star selection, and a fiery rivalry match against FC Cincinnati on Sunday. Things are heating up for your Crew as they enter the second half of the 2022 Season!"

So they played away on Saturday at Chicago (coming from behind to win 3-2).
    They play us today.
And then they play Cincinnati at home on Saturday.

I'm hoping the sentence above from their marketing folks is a reflection of their entire club's attitude and we are considered a minor little speed bump on the way to the game on Saturday.

Maybe they rest most of their starters or aren't focused on us at all.

So maybe we can sneak out some sort of 2-1 win. I'd say 1-0 but it's difficult to imagine us with a shutout right now...

A pessimist would say that a marketing department knows it is practically useless to try to sell tickets for a Wednesday game but I like your optimism.

I will be enjoying the all inclusive suite experience so any good play will be a bonus but I really hope we get that Rooney boost today!

Someone looks like she’s angling to catch the new coach’s eye. Here’s hoping she breathes Wayne Rooney’s name as breathlessly as she did Hernan Losada’s.

I mean I knew we’d milk the Rooney hiring the entire pregame but it’s still weird to see the “Rooney impact year before and year after joining” table when he was a player directly influencing the game and then thinking that translates to coaching. Then we start Robertha, Hopkins Skundrich and Durkin.

Say what you will about the DC United Front Office, but at least they're not afraid to give interns some real work.

Sure beats hiring a seasoned professional!

They might want a decent salary and ask questions nobody wants to answer.

Incredibly sloppy so far but at least more people on defense means no early goals.

Are they no longer streaming off of dcunited.com? When I go there, all I get is a link to ESPN+ (which is of course blacked out).

Watching on a illegal stream, but weird.

It's like they don't want us to hear what Dave and Devon might say. But Dave's a company man through and through so they really don't have anything to worry about
