Slightly off topic, but I discovered a place in Manassas called "My Bakery" that sells United tickets and tasty saltenas (and other good stuff). It's also an internet cafe, so you can check Big Soccer while you eat - if they had a liquor license, they would have all the essentials covered! As we left, I noticed that the car stereo store next door also sells United tickets. I commented to my wife that in 8 years, I don't remember ever seeing United tickets on sale anywhere besides RFK. Don't know if this is a new marketing strategy, or if it just took this long for them to get out our way, but it's a good development either way. Oh yeah, it's at the intersection of Centreville Rd. (Rt. 28) and Sudley Rd. Besides being good, the eats are also cheap!
There are several restaurants in Arlington that sell DCU tickets. Pretty much been doing it since '96. As for the salteñas, I've got my own "connection" Enjoy though Señor Funk, sounds like a good deal.
There is an Italian restaurant in Ballston that is jam-packed on weekends with people purchasing salteñas to go.
Yeah - that place on Randolf Street, right? I used to eat there all the time, but can't remember its name.
So it sounds like it's just a matter of DCU expanding its "footprint" out to the outer 'burbs. Still a good development (I want this team and league to stay in business!).
Speaking of the outer 'burbs...I'm really suprised how many people out here in Woodbridge know a little about what's going on with the team right now. For what it's worth, it's somewhat encouraging that even a good hour south of RFK, people seem to think of DCU as 'their' team. Of course, we have a team here, the Northern Virginia Royals, that I need to check out one of these days. I guess, after living pretty much my whole life in Nebraska, it's still a pleasant surprise to be living in a metro area where an MLS team is a part of the local sports environment, even amoung people who aren't soccer fans. Now I gotta figure a way to get some of these people to go to the games...
Restaurant called Tutto Bene; it seems more latin/spanish than italian and those 'saltenas' are a Bolivian specialty! IntheNet
