Match :: DC United @ San Jose Earthquakes Date :: August 7, 2004 Time :: 7:00 PST Place :: Spartan Stadium, San Jose, CA Catch DC United in San Jose before the Earthquakes fold! Earlier this year we had a great big crowd in Los Angeles for the match against the Galaxy. But in San Jose it was just me and The Nuge. Now The Nuge is a swell guy, and I was very drunk. So we held our own there pretty well, but in the end we were only two. That’s still enough to out-shout the usual Spartan Stadium crowd, but the numbers just weren’t there. Actually, Bird was there too apparently, but somehow we couldn’t track him down. I hope when DC United returns to Spartan Stadium on August 7th that we can put together a bigger and louder group. As usual when I organize things my aim is to get enough people together to make a group ticket purchase. That helps us avoid Ticketmaster charges and if we get enough people it brings the costs down quite significantly. When at Spartan Stadium I prefer to sit anywhere from 130-134. The other side of 130 is too close to the home team supporters, and the seats – even all the way down to 134 – are really quite good. With Ticketmaster and other assorted fees I estimate individual tickets in those sections run about $20. That’s not what I want to pay though … If we can get 15 people to commit to a group purchase directly from the Earthquakes we can keep the ticket prices down to about $12. (There are some PayPal fees too but they’re really minimal.) As long as we get over 10 people we’ll all still save a few bucks over Ticketmaster prices, and – most importantly – we’ll have a nice big, powerful and loud group to sit with. It really is SO much better to be with like-minded fans. My aim, initially, is to get 10 people to commit to a group ticket purchase at the break-even point. My aim after that is to find some last minute takers for the “extra” tickets so we can all bring our costs down to the very minimum. If all goes to plan we all pay the minimum price, and we all have our tickets waiting for us at will-call. When we’ve done this in LA it’s always worked out pretty easily, and we’ve always been able to minimize our costs. It’s a little harder to get a group together for the San Jose games though. I hope we can change that this time around. Also, Spartan Stadium offers pretty good tailgating. So if folks are up for that let me know and we’ll try to coordinate meeting up in the lot. I’ll bring the whiskey. I might even share! So if you’re interested in a group ticket purchase please chime in below with the number of tickets you’d like AND send an email to brlevine@yahoo.com. In that email please include your full name and the number of tickets you’d be interested in purchasing. The Current Head Count Knave DCU
Re: West Coast DC United Supporters :: DCU @ SJ :: 8/7/04 :: Hey folks, It looks like I'm going to be out of town that weekend and will miss the game. If I am able to reschedule my travel plans and can make it, I will probably sit in my usual spot (in 130). The Quakes have been averaging around 11K/game for their last few games, so it's been easy for groups to move around sit together on the east side. Adumania will probably draw a few more to Spartan, although I'd be surprised if they got 17-18K to turn up (like they did for the game in early May).
Re: West Coast DC United Supporters :: DCU @ SJ :: 8/7/04 :: I'm about 99% locked in for this one, I just hope my mom and friend don't get freaked out too much by the fact that we'll surely be outnumbered by Quaker Oats fans. Oh well! Knave, I'll be giving ya an email in the next week or so once my plans for in CA are final. But I will have at least 3 people with me!
Re: West Coast DC United Supporters :: DCU @ SJ :: 8/7/04 :: Leslie and I are planning a trip to CA. I want to make it that weekend. If I do make it there, I will personally guarantee we will out sing all of San Hoser. Oh yes, I'll bring all my friends and family to the game too. Sachin
Re: West Coast DC United Supporters :: DCU @ SJ :: 8/7/04 :: I've already told mom and my friend that even though they are Californians they have to cheer for DC, they are fine with that because they know I wouldn't chant and sing for just any old team.
Re: West Coast DC United Supporters :: DCU @ SJ :: 8/7/04 :: ah hah, this is why i never see you (or your posts) anymore...
Re: West Coast DC United Supporters :: DCU @ SJ :: 8/7/04 :: As long as they don't wear blue ... Sachin - when do you think your plans will be finalized?
Re: West Coast DC United Supporters :: DCU @ SJ :: 8/7/04 :: Acutally, no. I've been really busy with family and work. Sachin
Re: West Coast DC United Supporters :: DCU @ SJ :: 8/7/04 :: I just wanna say to our West coast supporters.........Major Props!! I wish you all could feel the same thing we do at each home match. But, keep the faith! We may be asking you all one day for a place to crash when United goes to the Cup in you're city!!! Viva the left coast!!!!
Re: West Coast DC United Supporters :: DCU @ SJ :: 8/7/04 :: Sadly, I won't be out there that weekend. Sachin
Re: West Coast DC United Supporters :: DCU @ SJ :: 8/7/04 :: It was almost on the third page ... so bump.
Re: West Coast DC United Supporters :: DCU @ SJ :: 8/7/04 :: Well with the above image, I'm surprised most people that have viewed this thread can still see. That just burns your retinas doesn't it... Gaaaaaaak!
Re: West Coast DC United Supporters :: DCU @ SJ :: 8/7/04 :: I'm bumping this thread again in an effort to make revelation go blind.
Re: West Coast DC United Supporters :: DCU @ SJ :: 8/7/04 :: I'm still on target to be there, have we had anyone else say they'd be there?
Re: West Coast DC United Supporters :: DCU @ SJ :: 8/7/04 :: I'll send the Nuge an email. We're looking at - maybe - 6 right now.
Re: West Coast DC United Supporters :: DCU @ SJ :: 8/7/04 :: Anyone? Things aren't looking bright for the goup ticket purchse ... C'mon! It may be your last chance to see DC United play in San Jose!
Re: West Coast DC United Supporters :: DCU @ SJ :: 8/7/04 :: The List Knave DCU (I think) the Nuge (+1?) DCU16SK52 (+2) ----------- 6 should be there, maybe 1 more That's an optimistic 7 which isn’t quite enough for a group ticket purchase. We’ll give it a few more days, and then make a decision. It may still make sense to purchase tickets together either on game day, or before – ideally someone swings by the Quakes ticket office in San Jose.
Re: West Coast DC United Supporters :: DCU @ SJ :: 8/7/04 :: A couple more responses came in. I need FIRM NUMBERS though. We still have time to arrange a group purchase, and we're only one or two away. Send me an email if I don't already have your address.
Re: West Coast DC United Supporters :: DCU @ SJ :: 8/7/04 :: I will be there - driving up from LA - anyone else coming from SoCal - carpool? james
Re: West Coast DC United Supporters :: DCU @ SJ :: 8/7/04 :: I'm going. Not available for a carpool though, sorry.
Re: West Coast DC United Supporters :: DCU @ SJ :: 8/7/04 :: Here's the bad news. Unfortunately I don't think we're going to meet the number for a group ticket purchase. BUT WAIT!!! Here's the good news. Nobody goes to Quakes games so we shouldn't have any trouble meeting up on the day of the game and buying tickets at the gate. So that's what I'm proposing we do. Let's meet in the lot, have a few (or more) drinks (maybe eat some food too) and purchase tickets on the day of the game. That way no matter how many people show up we can be sure to sit together. It's the most flexible plan for our numbers. If folks are up for that then post here AND send me an email (brlevine@yahoo.com) or a PM. I'll post more later about a meeting spot, and a time, and I'll send everyone my cell number in case anyone gets lost. As for tailgating, I'll have my obligatory bottle of whiskey, and I'm willing to share. But if folks are up for more elaborate festivities then let's talk about that here.
Away at San Jose - Meeting Up? Is there a plan to gather before the match at a watering hole somewhere, or are we just going to meet at the stadium? james
Re: Away at San Jose - Meeting Up? As above. If that's the plan then I'd like to get to the stadium pretty early. I think there's only a handful of us going.
