unless I somehow missed it I haven't noticed DCU logo on any of the supporter banners. Is there a reason for it missing (copyright or DCU complaints or something?) I could probably find out from DCU through some emailing/phone calls, but I figured there's no need if someone already went through it I kinda come from a Wild West country where we slaped our team's logo all over banners, flags, scarves, shirts etc so not used to it Anyone know if they'd care?

Look on the left side of the banner..I think you can see the basic united logo, but what is inside, it might be the logo..or..?
The spaces for the them are there (I think one might be left), but that banner has fallen on hard times. Is the Barra going to take up a collection to get a new banner? I'm not a member, but I get enough enjoyment from watching you guys across the field that i'd chip in a reasonable amount to help get a new one (someone PM me if such a fund exists already). -dave
I think that's the old logo you are referring to. Either way, I made my own bumpersticker that has the current DCU logo on it but I think technically speaking, you are not supposed to do that. But I only made one and it was for me, not to attempt to sell to others. I'm not so sure they would hassle you too much for making a banner and putting the official logo on it, if that's what you had in mind. (so long as you are not attempting to make a profit off the logo)
The logo on the banner is the one we've had since 1996. This actually our third banner. The first tarp that covers the Barra on goals and this banner were funded by Marco Etcheverry. I've been on a crusade to have it replaced but keep running into obstacles that I won't go into. At about $1000 it's going to take a little doing. The next one will probably be lighter and more durable. Plans are in the works but it looks like it'll be next season before it happens. If we can make it happen we'll try for this year. Funding will be addressed and submitted to our members.
no it wouldn't be for profit hehe I just thought to ask if I get will to make one. 3 friends and myself made a circa 60 yard one 15 years ago when we were kids, it was all made of cheap Czech cloth for $300 and then we got nice tailor people to saw it for us for free (well we bought them some cookies and beer). Funny thing was I remember when we went into cloth store in Prague and bought all the cloth they had in there (60 yards blue and 50+ yards of white) they had to call a store director cos noone ever bought as much lol I think it finally got burnt by torches last year
erm... another problem that someone might have better solution for I need a 3.5 foot high DCU logo for middle of banner. My solution at the moment is to buy one of the flags (like this http://www.flagline.com/id0184A03 ) then cut out logo and see if sign shops can enlarge it and digitally print it on durable vinyl which we can then sew in the middle like it was a piece of fabric. Cos I don't think I want to draw, cut and sew logo by hand, letters are easy... Dunno, maybe there's a secret large logo shop or maybe someone can think of a better idea. This is how banner will hopefully look, we're about 1/2 way into it by now (baring any problems... I never made a bar banner so learning as I go)
here is a suggestion.... Why not print the whole thing on vinyl? If you goto a print shop that does large format printing they can usually accomodate. I know RPG Digital Imaging used to do it, and I'm 99% positive that ABC Imaging does it as well. I'm sure there are others around the area. look in the yellow pages or google for "large format printer". They use printers up to 60" (i think there is a 72" model as well) and since the paper is roll fed there isn't a limit on length (within reason). HP5500 was one model and i forget who the other manufacturer was. You would pay by the square foot. The printer will print on almost anything like vinyl or even canvas in addition to regular paper. You would probably need UV or archival ink to withstand sunlight (since regular ink fades over time). I don't know how it would compare cost-wise to sewing it together, but it would give you the advantage of using all CG art like from a Photoshop or Illustrator file which should make life a little easier. i'm sure there's other graphics guys in BB, SE or La norte who can help get the file ready, or PM me if you need help....
As someone who has done a lot of banners both ways - they look a lot better and truer handsewn than done via vinyl printing. Vinyl may be more durable but the handsewn ones are the ones everyone likes most.
That is one sick-looking banner. The only problem I have is the striping pattern; not that it's my place to speak, but for my taste, it looks too Metro for me. Don't hit me, please.
I actually looked into vinyl as that would be much easier as far as my time, but lowest price I got was $500 from some place in Utah (I don't think mine will come out more than $100-200 tho I'm not really keeping track). It's over 100 square feet so it adds up, specially with local places charging around $8/sq foot. I suppose it would come out similar if I had professional tailoring place put it together, luckily I have a very patient girlfriend that puts up with my insane ideas and likes to sew. Plus I'm a Eurosnob so I like sewn banners, they remind me of home.
I really don't think vinyl is that much more durable to a reinforced cloth banner, I still see same ones today at Dinamo games that were there in mid 80s. Basically unless they get burnt by flares or taken in fight and burnt by rival fans or are really badly done they last a long time. That main Chicago banner looks sewn, I like that one a lot. Well if they ever put one together they can allways say they had it second. Right now they graduated from crayons and paper to making them with bed sheets and markers so maybe in 15 years. I went with striping pattern for 3 reasons 1) First design was based on Milan banners (Fossa Dei Leoni/Brigatte RossoNerregsajdgsajgsa however they spell it) so it looked something like this. Then I realized I don't want to shuffle around 26 feet of cloth to sew on letters with that tiny little sewing machine. Plus Milan sucks. 2) Well bar design is easier to do together in sections... you do a 2x4, reinforce it, put on a letter... string them together, etc. At least in theory since we didn't start putting different sections together yet. And bar design is more popular lately (as I said before I'm Eurosnob hehe) - look at all the bar banners. Metro certainly doesn't have a patent on it. 3) pannel of experts, all 2 of us, agreed it would be easier to do without killing each other in process. That's actually main reason
if the price your getting is $8/sq ft (which sounds about right) then $800 bucks would definitely deter me from doing it. I would think printing on canvas would be about the same price. Patient girlfriends who put up with insane ideas and like to sew are rare finds, make sure you keep that one As for the vinyl versus cloth debate, i think cloth would definitely have a more traditional feel to it, i just brought up the other options in case it may have been easier/cheaper.
Haha, yeah, like that ridiculous "Gotham Guard" banner with the little MetroTard dog on there. Our main LN banner may be in tatters, but it's still a damn sight better than that piece of crap. I'm working on a new design; I'll post it for critiques when I'm finished.
I thought it would be cheaper too, Utah place had about $4.5/foot for lowest quality. Cloth is $6.5/yard (and $8/yard for letters material) so that's much cheaper, plus labor is free. if I get logo enlarged and printed (just found 2 places that might be able to do it) then it will just be something like 3x3.5 feet so it won't cost that much. The LA MAQUINA ROJA, CHICAGO FIRE, FIRE FANS, "FIRE" Chicago Flag, and a few others are sewn. A few more are painted on canvas cloth which is ok. There are a few printed (like the NOWAK 10 banner) that could not really be done differently. Unfortuanely we too have lost a few banners to flares and smokebombs. The great thing aboutt he sewn ones is they are easy to wash to keep them looking good over time.
I'll gladly risk losing my banner to pyro if that means we can light stuff up without being shipped to gulag
You have to be careful, it's not exactly kosher most places. We usually save pyro, at this point, for parking lots or US Open Cup trips to small stadiums where the one security guard can't do a damn thing.
