Just wondering... Anyone going to shell out $12 for the big DC-Rapids match on the big screen in Union Square tonight?

I live about three blocks from that theatre, but I don't think I can watch those teams. COL makes me want to blackout.

Yeah, I'm glad that Phil is starting to cross-over his properties, but I honestly wonder if anyone will cough up the dough for this turkey of a match.

If he really wanted a crowd, he'd beam a USA match or a Metro away match to his theatre, but alas, the Metros aren't scheduled to appear on HDNet this season.

    Exactly.

I think he supports the leauge in username only.

I will go to the LA-SJ match later this month just to see it once, but that's about it. If it's not Metro and it's not the Nats, I have a hard time justifying repeated viewing.

So you and 49 members of the MLS HQ were there. MLS, A for thinking up a great idea, F for execution.

    Agreed. F for execution.

I was there last night. Not on a comp, but by paying with my own dollars.

This was a completely typical MLS kind of screw up. Yes, the Hi-Def broadcast was beautiful, and the sound quality was outstanding, but for crying out loud, MLS, LEARN SOMETHING ABOUT SHOWBIZ, DAMMIT!!!

This was an opportunity to have an "Opening Night" type experience, the type that movie openings have. There should have been giveaways, promos from radio and TV stations, free food, etc. At least have a MASTER OF CEREMONIES from MLS welcoming us to such a historic occasion. Nope, nothing.

Sunil Gulati was there. He could have said a few words. Nope, nothing again.

I sometimes wonder if the people at MLS have a fear of crowds, or a fear of drawing attention to themselves, or a fear of having a good time, or letting their players have a good time.

    THIS IS SHOWBIZ, YOU IDIOTS!!!

    ENTERTAIN ME!!!!!!!!!!

Please - MLS is hardly the best of salesmen, and it would take the best of the best to "sell" a DC-Colorado game.

Maybe the first horror movie, er game, was a test run - y'know - make sure the feed actually works, etc. Then the LA-SJ game might actually be pushed, as it would be good to watch.

No beer is a definite bummer. I'll need pint of Captain for my jumbo-sized coke.

I went. Had a good time, and I'll go to the other three as well.

It was a test run, I think, to see if anyone would show up. Also, it was another chance to partner Anschutz's holdings (Regal Cinema Corp) and Cuban's (HDNet).

More people turned out than I expected. The game was crap, but was worth it to see some of the young, possible future nats like Beckerman get a whole match (I thought he played well).

It's MLS, so I'm happy to shell out my money. It's how godless heathens like myself tithe.
