Way to represent the team well today. Gomez flops around begging for nonsense penalty calls and when he doesn't get them spits directly in the face of the opponent with the ref just feet away. Filameno jogs around, has no touch on the ball, dives whenever anyone it close to touches him, and whines as much as Amado Guevara. Great representation of United's proud image today. Disclaimer: This thread is not intended to be deragatory against Argentinians or say that Christian and Lucio represented the team this way today because they are Argie's. However, these were the two guys I was most dissapointed in having on the team I support today because of their actions.
Re: Argentinian Class [R] What I wonder about Gomez is that he hasn't been his normal self for several games now. At least since the last metro game. He doesn't seem to be injured but his timing and accuracy just went south all of a sudden. I genuinely don't understand.
Re: Argentinian Class [R] Were you at the game? Maybe it was not shown on TV but Filameno was seriously fouled on a few occasions without a call. This probably set the tone for the rest of his match. Care to add Polish, Mexican/Filopino etc

If he had been acquired much earlier, he could have been a positive influence on the team. Perhaps next year. This team needs to find an outisde defender to replace Pricdeaux and a goalie.

I thought at first it was a serious dissent call, but now that I see this totally in-excusible from a seasoned professional. Gomez and Freddy to Metros NOW! Sorry but I have a low tolerance for that kind of crap, and especially from the 4 time champs, give me a break. I'd expect that from Guevara!!!!!! I think Gomez is a great player but he definitely showed a lack of class tonight. Piss poor job tonight all around, can't say I blame the Argies directly. VAMOS UNITED!

Without Gomez this team is nothing and if you don't believe me then watch DC last season pre-Gomez. As far as Filomeno I don't blame him for fouling and playing dirty. He was the only person out there with enough courage to retaliate. If you want to blame anyone for what when on tonight blame the ref. He had no control from the beginning of the match b/c he kept letting things go.

Re: Argentinian Class [R] I agree Gomez embellished the Brown tackle (poorly) but there was certainly contact and it was worth a try. And Brown immediately got in Gomez' face shouting at him. Given Gomez' class in other situations it's difficult not to chalk this up to heat of the moment.

I thought he got ejected for mouthin' off too much which to me made no sense... If he did spit, then I'm shocked... He's one of the nicest players I've ever met.. He's very soft spoken and seems very educated. (I gather all of this from hanging out with them in Chicago last week). He just doesn't seem like the kind of person who would do that... wow... I'm very shocked.

Re: Argentinian Class [R] forget low class loser move... it says specifically in the Laws of the Game, spitting on someone is an automatic red card. no room for interpretation. no way Christian can complain about a harsh red (assuming this is what he did) spitting = red. it's in the book.
Re: Argentinian Class [R] Filameno came in with the score 3-0 and actually matched the Fire's physical play. Good for him. From my seats in Nest, he sure didn't seem to be diving. If only the game hadn't been over when he entered thanks to Jamil Walker and everyone else who played during the first 45 minutes.
Re: Argentinian Class [R] I thought Filomeno was actually one of the few bright spots (aside from that early dive). He came on in an impossible situation but managed to do some dangerous things. Biggest challenge was that he couldn't read his attacking teammates very well, but that will come with experience. Bodes well for next year.
Re: Argentinian Class [R] I was faithless and didn't watch closely after halftime. I missed that until you posted. My God, even in the heat of the moment, that was really, really stupid. Did it cost us the game? Absolutely not. That was gone when we stepped on the field by how everyone played. But that was one of the dumbest things I have ever seen on a soccer pitch. Utter, total brainlock.
Re: Argentinian Class [R] Spitting at another player or match official should never be condoned or tolerated. What Christian Gomez did was clearly wrong. He hurt his club and the 20,000+ loyal supporters in attendance. But Christian did not cost United this match. The damage had already been done by a disorganized defense, and suspect goalkeeping. The club should make it clear that this type of behavior is not acceptable. They should fine him. And then put the matter to bed.

Second, he hasn't been doing very much the last month or so, but that's another topic that you're bringing up. Not blaming for fouling and playing dirty? Maybe it was some frustration by his wretched touch on the ball tonight but I give no excuses for fouling and diving around. Courage to retaliate? Wow. Right. Gomez spat in someone's face, and he gave a red card. Properly done. Filameno dove and didn't get calls, ref did his job.
Re: Argentinian Class [R] Not to be anal, but the ref book says "spitting or attempting to spit..." So, even if Gomez hadn't connected with Brown, it would still have been an ejection. Just makes it even stupider on Christian's part.
Re: Argentinian Class [R] It was an inexcusable move by Gomez, obviously born of frustration. Let's be honest, this game was over at halftime. Poor showing from Rimando and Jamil flubs a sitter. And yes, Gomez did dive. A fair result was probably 1-0 Chicago, as Guerrero's 2nd goal was all class.

Of course you don't want the guys to give up, but this wasn't an issue of giving up. CJ Brown slid and got the ball cleanly. Gomez dove, whined, and spat directly in Brown's face. It was truly pathetic. Christian Gomez owes CJ Brown, the Chicago Fire, MLS, his teammates, DC United staff, and DC United fans an apology for his actions today. I watch a lot of soccer and I can't think remember the last time I saw someone spit on someone like this. It's ridiculous and makes me embarrased to be a fan of the team today much more so than the 4-0 scoreline.
