Match report at http://www.dcunited.com/index.cfm?section=main&cont_id=173354 We're ready for the start of the season as long as we play in a division with GWU and Lynn U. Not sure whether we should let AU in that league.
Strangely, Doug Hicks' write-up seems to have Stoitchkov listed in defense. "Hudson’s sent Nick Rimando; Bryan Namoff, David Stokes, Brian Carroll, Hristo Stoitchkov; Santino Quaranta, Jose Alegria, Eliseo Quintanilla, Bobby Convey; Eskandarian and Ali Curtis out to begin the match."
Even though this is a mid level D1 school that we schooled today, I'm very happy to see this result with all the youngsters in the lineup... Can't wait for April 12....
Hudson has talked about trying Hristo there, because he doesn't have anybody else that can produce the 50 yard outlet pass to Etch's chest. Etch needs to get the ball in a very small radius about his body to effectively keep the attack going since his mobility reflects his years. If he doesn't get the ball near him, the defense can set up shop. GM
An assist from Milton! Dale Milton, asi nos gusta. That's a great sign that Reyes is integrating into the attack. The clean sheet speaks for itself. GM
He played left back/midfield (psuedo Reyes position) in the first half. One very effective tactic was that Convey would blast up field full speed, then fall back into a defensive position to catch his breath, and Stoichkov would take over the midfield duties.
Thanks Diceson. My, that's far from our actual MLS lineup though. Good to see Esky scoring, but he's always done that against college teams. It's nice to see Etch delivering good crosses and Nelsen connecting with them. But the competition simply isn't good enough to draw any conclusions whatsoever. -Digital
Thats twice this preseason Marco and Nellie have hooked up on corners. From El Diablos' left foot to Ryans head. I like it........
Was anyone else shocked that Hristo played in the game? Seems if there was resentment from last week the AU players wouldn't have taken the field with him.
Well, it was George Washington and not AU. And I bet those kids were treading lightly around ol' Hristo.
Olsen is fine. The scrimmage was set to give the younger guys, and those who haven't played significantly in pre-season, 90 minutes. Olsen was at the scrimmage, and along with the others who didn't play - Stewart, Kovolenko, etc - stretched and worked out on their own.
