DC in London -- Tottenham Date

Sorry to act like such a whiner about this, but does ANYONE have information on the upcoming rumored match between DC United and Tottenham in London?

It is rumored to occur in mid-October, and Kim has passed along October 17th (a Thursday?) as a potential date. However, in order for those wishing to fly over and take this in, a DEFINITIVE date would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Tim Connor

If the deal is finalized the 17th is the date (I got that from the top). However as it's not finalized yet I wouldn't book anything. If DCU is chartering a plane or is doing a group reservation maybe they could squeeze in a few more folks (worth asking over there). It's sucks that it's the same week as the MLS Cup, I could have tried to route through Boston and done it all but now it's VERY expensive.

Re: Re: DC in London -- Tottenham Date

I wonder if the coincidence of the match and the MLS Cup have something to do with the lack of promotion or decision by the team. If so, that is just ludicrous.

I have to draw the line on when my wife and I take our anniversary trip and where we go VERY soon. If I don't hear an announcement from Tottenham or DC United by Monday of next week, then we will be making plans independent of the game.

If DC wants to see an even more disgruntled and disenfranchised fan, I suggest they schedule the match and announce it with less than three weeks advance notice. (That is, FREAKIN TODAY!!!!). Evidently, neither team is interested in having even a small contingent of DC fans attend the match...which is, as I said, just ludicrous.

And as for MLS Cup: if that is factoring into this decision in anyway, then why play the match at all in "mid-October?" Frankly, I have no interest in attending any MLS Cup that does not involve DC United. Others may not agree with this approach, but my wife and my life suffer enough for MLS as is.

I will watch MLS Cup on the tube. I will also attend a MLS Cup at RFK without United (KC/Chi) but I will not travel to see two other teams in MLS Cup.

This from the DC United Web Site suggests Ray isn't thinking of a Tottenham game:

    HUDSON TRAVEL PLANS

Now that the season is officially over, players and coaches will have a couple of weeks off before off-season training picks up early next month. That means vacation time for most everybody, head coach Ray Hudson included. So what exotic destination is in Hudson's future? The islands, of course… but not the ones of sun-and-fun.

United's manager is heading to Europe on Thursday for a little business and pleasure before getting back to work full-time in a few weeks. Hudson is expected to scout players in both England and Scotland on his trip back home, in addition to the rare opportunity of watching some matches merely as a spectator. Hudson is expected to return home in time to prepare for the Black-and-Red's off-season training schedule and their friendly exhibition against C.D. Aguila on October 26th.

Tim, why are you going off the hook and blaming DC for all this? How do you know that it is not Tottenham dragging their feet?

Every day that goes by just makes it that much harder for me to juggle my employees schedules at work. If I don't hear anything by early next week I'm done. :(

I thought you had the WORLD Famous Oyster Festival?

I agree, that is the dilemna I face (though I have only mine and my wife's schedules to worry about).

And as to the question, "why am I blaming DC?" posed by Doug...I suppose you could say, as he implies, that I am being somewhat unfair in my above post. I agree that Tottenham is possibly the sticking point on this. Even if Tottenham is the problem, then it is still DC's responsibility, in my opinion, to nix the date or announce it officially. It's clearly in the public now, due to Goff's article. It is up to DC to get word out whether or not they can pull it off. If their choice is to go ahead with a game in mid-October, without notifying the interested fan base with sufficient time to make travel arrangements...then that is their choice. The down-side to this choice is that they (DC and Tottenham) will have missed an opportunity for some away support, which is their decision. Hence, I am "blaming" DC.

OK you big babies who can't pick up a phone or send an email to United...

They hope to finalize the plans by Monday, the game date is still Oct 17. They aren't chartering a plane so no chance for folks to fill up any empty seats.

Do what you need to do.

If you don't already have a passport you need to apply for one immediately as it normally takes 5 weeks (there is an expedite service but it costs more). You should check out the info here to see what you need to do.

    http://travel.state.gov/passport_services.html

Tickets to EPL games for away fans are tricky. Most stadiums only sell away fan tickets through the opposing club (so maybe United can help, someone will have to contact them). Otherwise, here's contact info for Tottenham, see what they say http://www.spurs.co.uk/index.asp

For other info about the grounds, transportation and hotel, check this site

Sometimes the cheapest way to get to England is via Iceland (Iceland Air). You have to stop there (and if you're feeling adventurous you could spend some time there, I have a friend who has done this on route to England and loves it).

    Group Tickets for Tottenham?

Is anyone else thinking of going? I know that from Kim's other responses, there doesn't sound like there has been much information passed down, would they rather we stay home? I just went on expedia for a two day stay with air it looks like 1500.

K's right. In fact in most places in England you can and will be removed from the home stand if you are wearing the color, scarf, kit of the visiting side. Says so right on the ticket. At a Second Division game I attended last year I could not buy a ticket without declaring who I supported and what my postal code was! Computer wouldn't print a ticket and the program had no clue how to handle Arlington VA 22207!.

I have also traveled on Iceland Air from Baltimore and it was less expensive, took two or three hours more and included some great duty free salmon and woolen goods.

so I guess now the question is - is our club selling the tickets to the game?, or how else do we get them? no need to worry about going if we can't get in
