Woot! 8 yellow cards in the game believe but it was a hard fought match. I watched on TV and I saw a good number of y'all there, good work. Me being 15 prohibits me being in DC past like... 9pm or something. Plus I'd have to metro -_- Beautiful game from Gomez with his header and Emilio with his own. RLS just couldn't keep up, even with their double-digit free kicks and corners.
clinched playoff berth. Perkins with another ballin ass game. oh and Gomez too. and Emilio just keeps them goals commin. im already reserving my seat to watch United in the cup final.
I called Esky over to the Barra after the game just for Blondie and he came right over. Where were you?
Great game. I actually watched majority of it. Perkins came up huge, Benny scrapped out as usual, Emilio keeps rockin' it, Gomez was crankin'. Basically, everyone was doing exactly what they've been doing for the last few games. Kickin' ass!!! Good tailgate for a weeknight! Many thanks deserved! Thanks Oscar for the carne. Thanks Tommy for preparing and cooking all of it. You come up huge every time. Thanks Scruggs for bringing the keg, grill, and table which is a huge part of EVERYBODY's tailgate experience. Thanks Will Chang for stopping by and being the best owner in MLS. Thanks to Bill, Mark, and Srdan for bringing everything to go with the carne. Thanks to my Thundering Herd brother for the mojitos (sorry, keep forgetting your name. That will happen until your third year in the barra Even then its a stretch). Thanks Chico and Mike for doing the banner thing. Thanks to Esky for stopping by the Barra after the game. You are truly missed. Finally, thanks to everyone for the complements on the photos. I like doing it anyway, but knowing that my friends are enjoying my work makes it so much more worth it. I got a lot of great pics. I think my player pics have improved, but I haven't uploaded them on my computer yet, so I could be completely wrong. I took 1000 photos, so please be patient on the posting. See you guys in a couple weeks!!! D U to the double F
This was my first missed home match of the summer, but I'm off for abroad tomorrow. So many thanks to everyone in Barra for making it a great summer of DC United. Loved every second, see ya guys in the spring. Vamos United!
I was bummed at work all night because not only was I missing the game live, but there was a meeting in the one section of the bar that has a tv, so I couldn't watch at all! Thanks to Jared (jump punch) for the score updates through text. Glad to hear we pulled off a sweet win and got that playoff spot! See you all at the next home game (I shouldn't be missing any others this season, but really, only missing one league game and two non-league games and coming from Richmond isn't too bad! )!!
S'alright. I will definitely answer to "Go Herd!". Glad everyone enjoyed them! Obviously next time I'm going to have to make a bigger batch - they went quickly.
This was the first game I went to the game and was away from my Barra Brothers and Sisters. I wanna thank everybody who signed my shirt (Greg Vanny, Dominic Mediate, Christian Gomez, Eddie Pope, and Alecko.) I wanna say WTF was that Ben! .. I threw you my shirt and you just walked around it and kept going! Eddie, Even though I threw u my shirt, you tossed it back and I still got u to sign it anyways haha. Anyways.. Since I wasnt in the barra. I found out the sections are not too different. Instead of Beer we have SLUSHIES!.. So when we scored I threw my slushies in the air threw my pom poms.. and threw my air bangers! People got mad. Me and my buds stood up assholes were like Sit down and right behind me was Fake Salty Lake fans were right there. They tried to do a wave.... and this guy goes around banging his drum whispering.."Dc United" LOL! it was funny. I think he was whispering because he didnt wanna wake me up. Man it was ugly win 8 fouls.. so many "offside" calls that i didnt no what the score was! haha.. but a win is a win and thats all i gotta say. Oh ya I met some cool people from La Norte, You guys are cool too!
I was wondering what you were doing over there. I was walking by and saw you and was like "why do I recognize someone on the quiet side?"
I also forgot to say Thanks to Bruce for cooking up some brats and also lending some grill space for the carne. And of course thanks to all who make the Barra what it is and I'm sorry if I left someone off. By the way, that was my first United game EVER where I didn't drink a drop!!! Well, I had one sip of the mojito out of curiosity, but I didn't drink anything else all night. That was interesting. I still had a great time of course, but it was definitely a different vantage point. I can't wait for that 9/29 game to just cut loose!
Blondie was right there, but she was not going to jump down onto the field w/o one of your fancy badges. She is just too law abiding by nature. On a side note... That was a strange group last night. Were there more newbies then veterans or was that just me? I also may need a ruling soon on when I am allowed to punch another person in the Barra. No one in particular, but if another drunk frat boy posing as a Barra member gives me shit for any reason I am going to knock is ********ing teeth down his throat and then just go right back to singing. Sorry, venting felt good though.
No, it wasn't just you. And I'm glad, really glad, we're getting more and more new people; but a hell of a lot of the new folks seem there for no other reason than that it's a cool place to party.
The key is to develop those kinds of people into true Barra members. Get them singing and get them to contribute to the tailgate here and there and they're ok by me. I talked about it with James too, but I thought it was weird to see so many randoms on a weeknight game. I'm used to recognizing a lot more faces on a weeknight because you gotta be a bit hardcore to be willing to drag into work on Thursday after a crazy wednesday night. But I guess when I was in my early 20s I was going out on weeknights a lot and was able to bounce back just fine. So I guess their thinking is that if you're going to go out on a Wednesday, there is a guarantee a United game will be a good party versus a random bar. But again, these people need to be given a chance and shown the ropes and be informed on how the Barra works. I know a handful of great Barra members that started out in the fashion. If they still don't learn, James, swing away...
What specifically was the problem? I thought there was more people singing percentage wise than on weekends. I think that's cos there were much fewer drums
I've seen some of this myself. And, of course, I was way in the back of 135 (I turned my drum over to more capable hands) so I wasn't around quite the same group of fans as you guys. There were some young guys in front of me, one of whom was obviously well and truly boozed up. But they were chanting and jumping and doing their part. None of them had any DCU gear, and I don't know how much they really cared about what was going on, but they sure as hell made some noise.
Srdan, this has been an ongoing issue for me...like since I was a kid. I do not believe that people are held accountable enough. Getting drunk is fine and I am more than willing to let a guy hang on me if he is being cool and just needs a little help, but if he is going to act like an idiot... I do not want to go down this line. It is not a huge deal. Newbies are great. We are all trying to attract them, but there seem to be so many right now that they do not have to listen to anyone because they are with a big group. Mob mentality. I had Big Rob and Nick there to make sure my ass was in line. We talked about what we could do in the stadium for DC to recruit people not how much we could drink outside the stadium. Maybe I was just too sober to suffer fools. Ignore me.
I recall from '05 and '06 this taking place in September. A large influx of college age newbies, some of which have gone from drunken newbie annoyance to traveling supporter so Duff is right. Turning them into Barra Bravas is possible. Wait until the playoffs start. Hell I can be an annoying drunk, so I can't speak too loudly.
No, I agree with James too - maybe because I'm usually standing behind him, but I've seen this happening a lot. Being drunk and singing and chanting - cool by me. Being drunk, not singing, getting up on the chair just so you can wiggle your ass in front of me - not cool by me. Also, something went down by the aisle between 134 and 135 - I didn't see what it was, but their were some harsh facial expressions all around.
mmm do tell do tell, i wanna know and also if it was my ARSE in front of you you wouldnt be complaning hahahaha, ok im gg back to drinking now
