DC United vs Richmond Kickers Sat. Apr 5 Pre-match Hey Mods, I don't know if we want to start the "Official" DC vs Richmond thread or not, but I thought I'd throw something together here, to get it started if so. (most has already been said) Previous Threads SEs original Post greatscott post on DC "blackout" La Norta Road Trip to Richmond Results of first Richmond match this preseason Anyway... I have a question... or maybe just a concern. Does anyone know if DC will wear their new away jerseys on Saturday or will they continue to wear the jersey-that-must-not-be-named for their preseason matches? It's really no wonder we've had a rough pre-season. From what I remember, they've worn them once in Florida, but not since... (granted they might not have wanted to give the new jersey the curse of the jersey-that-must-not-be-named)
Re: DC United vs Richmond Kickers Sat. Apr 5 Pre-match it should be a lot of fun. I am quivering with antici........pation! (rocky horror picture show). Just so you guys know... i hear it might thunder in the morning but it should clear up according to the weather channel.. will keep you posted.
This match should really be called Union vs. Confederacy Yes, I do trot out the same joke every year. Sue me. Sachin
I'll be the first to climb out on a minaret, I mean limb........... United 2 Richmond 1 Stewart and Q1 Bust one in for the lil' one, Tino!!!!
Are you suggesting the fans are the gentile elite watching the bloodbath from the hill while picnicing? Let's hope for a better outcome than Bull Run.
Great news guys! the weather channel has officially changed the weather report to Party Cloudy on saturday. i will venture to say 1-1. Stewart and jeffreys will score..
Last year, the referee has given us the game ! We did not deserve to win. I saw that their midfield was better than ours ! That's how I came up with the IDEEA to have their (Kickers) midfield playing for us. I, still believe, we were better of with their midfield than we were with ours, the worse midfield ever( DCU 2002 mid). This year it is a different story, hopefully, a better referee !! Our team is lagging in training, IMHO. So, I would say we are gonna lose this one !! Frankly, a defeat will be better for us than a lucky win !! It will inoculate a little bit of urgency wich ,IMHO, we desperately are needed !!! PS. I hope, I will see ya there !!!
I doubt the Q1, but agree with the scoreline...although maybe we can get the shutout. Watching practice yesterday, Q1 couldn't hit the broad side of a barn for his life, and he knew it.
wow no pregame thoughts? is there any substitution rule in effect tonight? my main hope and concern is no injuries so we can start the season at full strength. considering we are counting on something from both bobby and tino we have a bit of a bonus due to the cancellation of the youth championship. hopefully the 1st team plays only a 1/2.
The Truth has been revealed! ps-If I run into you (and I don't mean Stoitchov style ), I'll buy you a beer.
United 13, A-League Richmond Mini-Ditkas 0. Or, 2-1 United over Richmond. Either/or, should be a good time. Ed
See you at City Stadium (er... U of R Stadium, sorry), and post-game at the new improved (and packed to the gills) Bandito's or the no-we're-not-closed-yet Penny Lane Pub (7th and Grace, downtown).
Here is the Kickers' pre-game story http://www.richmondkickers.com/news/040103preDCUnitedgame.htm Players to Watch Kickers: The Kickers will look to veteran A-League players to improve on last years 2002 Eastern Conference Championship. Forward Kevin Jeffrey has notched 29 goals and 16 assists over the past two seasons, and this year will team up with fellow forward Greg Simmonds, whom the Kickers acquired in a trade with the Rochester Raging Rhinos. Greg was the 1999 A-League Rookie of the Year and played 10 games in MLS for the Miami Fusion in 2001. Goalkeeper Ronnie Pascale will return for his fourth season with the Kickers, and his second as the full-time ‘keeper. He recorded 7 shutouts in 2002. Another new face on the Richmond roster is midfielder Jason Russell. Jason played one game for the Kickers in 2000 but spent the rest of his four A-League seasons with the Milwaukee Rampage, recording 10 goals and 14 assists. Veteran defender Chris Brown will return to the lineup this season after sitting out 2002 due to a torn ACL suffered in the first regular season match. United: DC’s roster boasts a cross-section of talent, from veterans with years of international experience to the up-and-coming stars of tomorrow. Forward Hristo Stoichkov is a former FIFA Footballer of the Year (1994) and made his international debut for the Bulgarian National Team in 1987. Midfielder/forward Earnie Stewart has amassed 111 goals during his fourteen seasons in Holland's first and second divisions, making him the highest scoring international-based player ever from the United States. This will be his first season in Major League Soccer. University of Virginia- product Ben Olsen heads into his sixth MLS season. After struggling with injuries the past two seasons, Olsen looks to return to his 1999 form when he garnered an MLS Championship along with the MLS Cup MVP trophy. Three players that seem to be the future of US Soccer wear a DC kit. Heading up the talented set of upstarts for United is midfielder Bobby Convey. Convey earned his first senior national team cap on October 25th, 2000. Meanwhile goalkeeper Nick Rimando has seen action with the full national squad and led all of MLS in minutes played in 2002 with 2,588. Finally, 18-year old Santino Quaranta has starred for both the U-17, U-18 and U-20 teams, in addition to tallying 8 goals and 5 assists in the past two season for his MLS squad.
so in some notes attached to the diceson thread ray is quoted saying esky is challenging tino for the second forward spot. that is interesting. first off, curtis looked way better than both at the open scrimmage (though tino didn't play up front much) and i like the way ray is challenging tino right up front. i'd imagine those three guys ought to be trying to light it up and get that spot. that is going to be something to watch tonight.
Curtis has been playing really well lately, while Tino is struggling and Alecko has a hip flexor strainthat you don't want to get worse. It could very well be Ali and Earnie up front for us in KC, and that might not be all that bad.
checked current broadcasts of both spanish and english radio stations that carry DCU games and neither has it. looks like we're out of luck. ah well.
### MODERATOR'S NOTE ### I changed the thread title to make this both the pre and post match thread. We'll start in with the usual routine next weekend.
