We need a thread for today. When: Saturday 28 May 7:00 pm EDT Who: NY/NJ Red Bulls vs. DC United Where: Red Bull Arena Forecast: Gametime weather. 72 and Partly Cloudy TV: NBC Sports Washington, TeleXitos, the team website locally, or ESPN+ elsewhere No cute animal, it is Red Bull.
A Tie right now would be a miracle. We'll see how well Taxi plays away from Home. It's not on him, but if he scores or assists, we should at least tie.
DC will lose the midfield anyway, but with no Canouse, forget it, mollywhomping. I don't know his status for tonight, really hope he can go. I'm also ready to see a 4-3-3. Reasons: -There's only 2.5 good center backs available. Pines is the .5. -Gressel and Smith at fullback. Gressel isn't a 'get to the end line' kind of wingback anyway, and he's perfectly comfortable crossing from deeper positions. I feel Smith is similar, if better able to get to the end line. Still, he's not effective when he does get there. -Leave the front three alone, they're finding some chemistry between the four of them (Kamara, Estrada, Flores, Taxi), so ride with what is the strength of the team right now. -Get another center mid in there. Durkin and Canouse is not only a negative going forward, they're not enough to cover, either. But add Djeffal to the mix and maybe there's a chance. -It could also simplify Durkin's role: stay back there as another center back on D, to cover when one of Birnbaum or Hines-Ike have to cover wide. Otherwise, be a safe wall passer when in possession, make the Redbull consider marking him in order to slow transitions. Basically use him as an outlet until Redbull shut it down, then get the ball to more dangerous players who now aren't marked as tightly, which is what we want.
Why refer to the opposition as the "Pink Cows?" The Jersey Cow is a recognized breed, known for the quality of its milk, but not its soccer.
Canouse is allegedly good to go (although whether he is good to go 90 is another question). Hoping to see a little more of the 45 minutes of pretty good Flores we had last week. I'm not expecting him to provide value for what we are paying him, but his playing better would make this attack a lot more dangerous.
Taxi stayed home with back spasms. Kamara sitting behind Robetha. Super annoyed by that. 📋 Tonight's Starting XI 🆚 New York Red Bulls#RBNYvDC | @XDCFoundation pic.twitter.com/X8y1tMnRWa— D.C. United (@dcunited) May 28, 2022
Oh, and you gotta love that huge home, Laughing Cow crowd. Maybe lots of the home "fans" are stuck outside with fake tickets getting tear-gassed by New Jersey's finest.
Red Bulls uniforms are bad, but 100 times better than our shitty ones. Who puts yellow numbers on white (especially when yellow isn't one of your colors)?
Really? (I probably watched 2 non-DC MLS games this year, so I don't doubt you). It's awful for being able to identify players
It's incredibly stupid. Every match this weekend has the same two uniforms with a few iron on patches to tell them apart.
