The east is both mediocre and very flat. Even the teams at the bottom aren't atrocious. I expect NE (if they have a real goalie) to be fighting for a playoff spot. Philadelphia is a clearly good team, but that's about it.
DC will not have to be particularly good to make the playoffs. I saw glimpses of a team that could easily make the playoffs vs. Austin and vs. NE in the first half. The question will be whether they can finish off games on a semi-consistent basis. And can they stay healthy.

PPG is the real measure. In the East, by PPG we're eighth, just outside the playoff zone. We're 0.1 PPG out of fourth(!) That's tying one game we lost. If we had been able to hold on in those two games we gave away at the end, we'd be in first with 2.29 PPG, ahead of vaunted Philly.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda, but it just goes to show, we're well in the mix.

In the interest of truth, this is fake news. We'd be in first with 2.14 PPG, ahead of vaunted Philly. I cannot effectively put together 6 and 9. Surely a common complaint among the forum residents.
