DC United vs. Montreal Date: Thursday, 27th of October, 2016 Kick Off: 7:30PM ET Location: Robert Fitzgerald Kennedy Memorial Stadium Television: UniMas I actually feel optimistic going into this match for three reasons. 1. It is at home where we are 9-4-4 compared to our rather poor 2-6-9 road record 2. Our players are rested and ready to go 3. We have been playing great past couple of months The big variable is Drogba situation in Montreal. I like our chances either way, but he could be an issue. I predict a 3-1 win as Black and Red advance
We're hot, Drogba is a drama queen, they're distracted, dominate, get the first goal, make them loose their cool.. Piece of cake we got this.
Our Wednesday play in game last year v. NE was played with one day less advance notice, with weather for the day of 55-70' F and rainy, and had attendance of 11,554. This year, looks like weather will be shittier at 47-59' F and still rainy. One extra day to sell tickets, but a hot team and a much better product on the field. Was hoping for a sellout before reviewing last year's info, now maybe I'd settle for 15k? Also, ******** Montreal. We're on a roll, they've been in a freefall since the summer. Would absolutely love a 4-0.
Will he actually play?— D.C. United (@dcunited) October 23, 2016 Whoever took over Twitter this season is killing it
I have a weird work week that involved overnight shifts this week. I am scheduled twice more. Thursday night and Sunday night. Let me just say, I hope to miss a game on Sunday. While I think DC can handle Montreal and may even be able to put in a dominant performance, unless Montreal steps up their game from the last half of the season, I do not want to see DC hanging on to a one goal lead or the game tied as they approach the 80th minute. For whatever else I think about Drogba, I feel like I've seen a lot of big game equalizers and winners from him late in the game.
Agreed. We can't leave it to a late Drogba moment. If we can control Piatti and limit his production, that's 50% of the battle right there. Montreal will be keying in on Acosta but he has shown the ability to get out of double and triple coverage. The movement, combinations and attacking play of Sam, Nyarko, Mullins and Acosta should be enough to cut through a Montreal defense that has not been that great. Vincent and Jeffrey can help stabilize the central midfield. I like having Neagle come off the bench if we need the spark and Sarvas if we need someone to get into Drogba's head.
Very Very difficult to sell out a midweek game. WAY WAY more difficult with no season tickets and only a few days advance notice. I think we knew quite a bit sooner that we'd at least be hosting a play-in (if not a regular first round game) last year.
Just went and looked at the table from last year...we were in 2nd, but New England, Columbus, TFC, and Montreal could've all passed us with wins. TFC played Montreal, so only one of those teams could pass us, and we know what Columbus did to us, but if New England had won, we would've gone up there for the game with them. You could argue it was worse, because we had the chance for a home game, away game, or no game. Also, we sold out a Wednesday game v. Toronto IIRC in 2014 or 2015, was one of those ticket and beer nights. I don't really have a point here, just rambling.
For which we had way way more than 4 days to sell tickets. And also no free beer. I'm hopeful we can get a solid 12-14k, but it'll depend on team outreach and weather. Probably more on the weather than anything else.
I guess I just can't comprehend that not everyone is me taking half days Thursday and buying their playoff pack as soon as I could . I forget that a large portion of the population could give less than 0 ********s about this team and game.
I did buy the flex pack before we even were assured of a home game, but I know I'm not like other people. Lucky for me, I don't even have to take half a day off to make it. Hoping the rain holds off or at least sticks to being a drizzle both for my benefit and cause we're the better team right now and rain is a great leveler.
I didn't really HAVE to, I just have 6.5 days of vacation to burn by the end of the year and figured why not take the half day and go home and chill and get down to the stadium early, as opposed to rushing out of work at 6.
MLS over expansion. I can't bring myself to hate this Montreal team, as a matter of fact I can't make myself hate any of these teams that weren't around during the last millennium. Someone help me with my hate.
As someone who is from Australia and has extended their stay in DC just to see this game, is there somewhere you guys meet for pre game beers? It would be good to meet some fellow football tragics.
