Nowak: Post Article about KC game [R] http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A41703-2004Jul10.html I guess Nowak forgot about the 3-0 game against Chicago ........
Re: Nowak: Post Article about KC game [R] "After the game, the temperamental Kovalenko inexplicably stormed out of the locker room after the team meeting, hitting a child with the swinging door. The boy was startled but unhurt. Kovalenko wasn't available to comment, and Nowak said he thought the Ukrainian midfielder was upset about not being able to play and the manner in which United lost." Oh great. Can't wait to hear the details on this.
Re: Nowak: Post Article about KC game [R] Oh yeah, i forgot to mention that one. More fodder for those who love to portray him as an absolute wildman.
Re: Nowak: Post Article about KC game [R] I assume Goff would have been more specific if the "child" was Freddy.
Re: Nowak: Post Article about KC game [R] you owe me a new keyboard as this one is now covered in mt. dew
I was actually VERY disappointed to see this in Goff's story. Not disappointed in Dema, but disappointed in Goff. I am as much a fan of Goff's reporting as anyone on this board, but the inclusion of the bit about the child adds NOTHING to the article except to sensationalize Dema's behavior and portray him as a brute who is such an animal that he likes hitting children with doors. So if Dema knew (or should have seen) that the child was standing there, possibly in the way, and flung the door open anyway, fair enough, but that should have been included in the article as well to back up the implication that Dema was irresponsibly negligent. If not, then leave it all out of the story; if someone (child or adult) is standing out of sight in the way of a door that might swing open, they might get hit, and there's no story there. The point would have been made by simply stating that Dema stormed out of the locker room after the game...and nothing more. The rest is just unnecessary piling on Dema's reputation without a full account of what actually happened. I know some if not most will disagree with me here, but I think this was poor judgement from Steven Goff. Having said that, again thanks to Steven for all his good work.
It was very weird to see... With that little blurb you have to wonder what the hell he is getting at...
I suspect there is more here than we see in print. I don't know what it is. But to argue it's not part of the story and should have been left out is equivalent to arguing that there should have been no press of Hudson mooning Dallas fans (which led to a fine) or Stoichkov pushing Convey in a match.
It's unfortunate that Goff can't even post a response to clear it up, now. How many photo ops with kids will Dema have to do to make up for this door thing?
I totally disagree. Probably very little chance any of us would know about this incident if Goff hadn't mentioned it in his story, and not directly related to the playing of the game; the two incidents you referred to happened out on/near the field, in front of all spectators, and were basically directly related to the game being played. You do hint at the issue that I have here: if there is more than we see in print, then print it. We all know Dema has a temper, but I think it's unfair to casually mention that he was mad and hit a child with a door, now go talk amongst yourselves.
