Shouldn't this thread have a poll?

Seriously, why is Eddie Pope not the next one in?

Besides, both Agoos and Williams now have that NYRB stench on them...

Yeah I'd take Pope over both of them any day.

I like Richie over Agoos, he's the toughest little son of a bitch ever to put on an MLS jersey. (and that's no small feat). :D Ok, well actually Goose deserves it more based on his personal accolades.

At some point though (and I know the 96-99 team was incredible) but they gotta stop putting everyone from those teams on the Tradition to Excellence wall.

Etcheverry, Harkes, Pope and Moreno is IMHO already a lot from one team.

And where do you stop? RDA, Agoos, Williams, Llamosa, Lassiter were all big contributers to those great teams but are they all ToE worthy? Agoos, sure, the others?

Plus you've got Olsen coming down the pike, and possibly Gomez, Nelsen, eventually you have Luci plus maybe another player or two from the current team if we start to win championships with this group.

Eventually there's got to be some sort of dividing line in who makes it. Being a 5 year starter on a championship winning team isn't enough, I'm talking Defender of the Year, First Eleven, MVP, Leading scorer, MLS Cup MVP, etc. those kind of things to be even considered.

Not until Gelnovatch gets in. George set the standard by which all DCU defenders will forever be measured.

    Nelsen better than Gelnovatch? Check.

    Pope better than Gelnovatch? Check.

    Cruz better than Gelnovatch? Check.

    Ivanov better than Gelnovatch? Check.

OK, so it isn't a really HIGH standard, more like a minimum requirement...

I've got no love for Richie Williams. Couln't stand him. 90% of his passes were backwards and often to the other team.

Thanks for making my officeworkers think I'm crying when I'm instead stifling uproarious laughter whilst drinking Pepsi. Rep duly given.

And yet he was a champion at every level at which he competed.

Perhaps holding the ball and making safe passes isn't as tragic an error as you think?

I hate him for letting his jersey disappear before I could get my hands on it.

How dare he go off happily selling commercial real estate in California after that?

    Hate.

    Hate.

    Hate.

(And I'm surprised you didn't mention Said Fazlagic)

    Sir!

    I must protest!

He passed he ball he way he was facing!

That's what Gordon Bradley always taught us!

Now, there may be something to the fact that Richie was always facing backwards, but I will let our collective lascivious minds discuss that...

    There it is.

    P.S. Pope! Pope! Pope!

There's actually rules for the Hall:

So that'll answer why Eddie's not on the list. He'll be eligible in the 2010 season. And we can now hold the team to that.

That's the answer Stephen just sent me.

I guess he was too polite to say "Did you read the f***ing notice?"

I'm confused. Does there have to be exactly one inductee per year? I don't think there's been one per year up until now.

Why does it have to be either Goose or Richie? What if the right answer is "both" (or "neither")?

Especially when your only job was:

To disrupt other team's attacks [check]
Protect Etcheverry [check] (along with the baby faced assassin)
Don't try to do anything fancy just get the ball to a more skilled passer [check]

Richie was not a perfect player but he was perfect for our team's needs at his position. Plus he was a winner and motivator and had no problems getting 'stuck in' for the team. After Diablo and Olsen he's got the biggest heart of our players.

Richie deserves nomination on the basis of his nickname alone - Ankle Biting Munchkin of Death (ABMOD for short).

Thanks, guys, for expressing my thoughts better than I can, myself. I've always thought highly of Richie's teamwork/teamplay and am still surprised by how many fans of DC United can't stand him.

Oh, and this is a tough call for me, voting between Agoos and ABMOD.
