That wikipedia article doesn't make this guy sound that great. Looks like we are getting desperate.

If his highlight video is any indication, he's the kind of player we could use. He could pair w/ Najar on the outside.

Yeah, I know, I shouldn't go by highlight videos, but I'm talking about style of play and tendencies, not so much about the particular plays on the video.

I will not be holding my breath for a miracle from a League One wunderkind...
While there has been a lot of talk about Mr. Johnson's abilities, I do not believe he will be the spark that this team needs...

Well, on the bright side, maybe this means Dave Kasper's influence is waning a bit: it's been a while since we've raided the Pittsburgh Riverhounds' roster.

I wish JJ's former MK Dons teammate Tore Andre Flo hadn't retired - and wasn't 37. I would make a play for him.

I think perhaps we have different interpretations of the phrase "...making a play....":D

And the surest indication that the over-stepper is a 'Real Player' ™

Johnson and Zizzo in one day

Saw JJ play live when I was in England last year. Has speed and a rocket shot but no natural talent as a winger beyond kick and chase. Not sure how well he'll handle MLS' rough and tumble style. Really fell out of the limelight and became nonexistent this past season, even when Paul Ince returned as gaffer.

Maybe not a bad move but he's not better than we have currently. We sure do love our washed up abroad players though. At least he's American!

Johnson might be a good pickup. He's had some important goals and also some good crosses (IIRC) that led to goals for MK Dons when they were fairly ambitious and pushing for promotion to the Championship Division. There used to be regular threads about him in the Yanks Abroad boards.

I think he played well there for a season or two while never quite locking down the starting position but he was still a regular contributor. Then I think he had contract disputes and started falling out with folks that were important for his career advancement.

I've seen some decent highlights of his (but Mira Mupier had a bad-ass YouTube compilation, too) and he ought to be able to at least push Tino, Pontius, Najar, etc for a wide midfield or forward role.

Young, enigmatic talent with size and speed? All he has to do is be better than Khumalo to make him worthwhile.

It sure seems we're looking for younger and speedier players in certain positions. It actually gives me hope that the team is finally going in a different, perhaps better, direction.

If Boskovic and Hernandez turn out well and the team gets Zizzo and Johnson, DCU could experience a LA Galaxy or Columbus like turnaround next year, especially if you consider the player United might get with their first round pick. The core would be mostly young and athletic with some experience sprinkled in.
