First off, great run at the end there DC. I hope the fans look at the posititives: they turned into one of those "Teams to Avoid" near the end of the year and look to have some good potential for next season.

For the casual fan, this was a fantastic game. You could feel the energy from the first minute. Great back and forth action, hustle and determination all around, and intensity without stupid fouls or a fight breaking out. If this is any sign of things to come, this could in all honesty be the best weekend ever for MLS.

By the way, did Rhine and Johnson forget their Ronald Cerritos shirts? In 40 years from now, I bet you Rhine looks like Biff Tanner from Back to the Future II. However, both has nice finishes. The Zambrano goal was my favorite though - the epitome of a play you make when the season is on the line

Very exciting game. I was rooting for DC since they were the underdogs, but oh well. Definitely one of the most exciting games of any level of soccer I've seen all year.

What a game, guys. Since it was on ESPN2, it should turn a few more fans on to soccer. Stone is stoned some times, the other guy is just as bad as every other days. MLS sure need better announcers for the TV cast.

Great game to watch. Rimando's tendency to leave his goal line might have caught up to him here.

Darn exciting game. The first tiem that I've seen Ed Johnson and realized what everybody is talking about. And Convey looked dangerous for a long stretch of the second half.

Arg! And I got talked into going to play a pickup game at halftime. I knew I should have stayed!

Ah, well. Glad to hear Dallas won. =D

yea that was a sweet knock and rip by Eddie Johnson and he has some speed doesn't he. But That was some of the best soccer I have watched this year near the end, including all of the World Cup I watched. Hell it certainly was better than watching Real - Roma on tuesday

Is Rob Stone slowly evolving into Jack? I heard him pull out toepoke and speedmove at least once.

I guess that answers the questions about how a multidivision league where 8 out of 10 teams get playoff spots can have regular season games that mean anything.

It may not be the way they do things other places but it sure was exciting.

I agree with you there. This match was much more exciting than a CL game featuring two of Europes top teams. A great game to watch. Too bad for D.C., I was rooting for the underdog as well. I think we can look foward to some exciting season finales and playoffs.

It was nice goal by Johnson, and it was nice to see him break out finally for the Burn. However, if this is your first time seeing Johnson, make sure to keep watching. The kid is pretty damn talented. If he takes off next season Twellman and Buddle may be left in his wake.

As Ray has said this is just not good enough. Ray will be ruthless in the offseason. You have seen the last of the old DC guard.

Before we start throwing out things like this was a better game than Champions League, two things for consideration:

    1) The situation. As a fan with no inclination towards either team (not even those weak ties where you root for one team to aid yours), I was instantly drawn more into this game knowing DC was fighting for their season. Fortunately, this wasn't just a manufactured storyline: DC left it all on the field tonight.

However, Roma-Real Madrid was the first turn game. They'll play each other again, and given the group, they'll probably both advance. Add in the fact that both teams have barely started the season (compared with MLS nearing the end), and the sense of urgency and speed of play isn't nearly the same.

    2) Real Madrid holds a lead better than any team in the world. Hudson went for the defensive sub with Williams, trying to hold the lead with 20+ minutes remaining; I thought he would avoid the defensive route with the Moreno sub. Dallas scored three goals after Williams entered for extra defense.

Real Madrid maintained their game plan, and were rewarded with two more goals. One and two touch passing, maintaining possession at all costs, and attacking at opportune time. Even when subbing, McManaman came on for Makelele.

This may be a matter of preference, but for me, watching Real move the ball around is just amazing - the essence of team play. Even if the game had ended 1-0, with Real's play in the second half and little plays like Guardiola's amazing touch to set up the Cafu shot, I have been entertained.

I'm not arguing that one game was better than the other (as I think my first post shows, I loved tonight's game.) I'm just saying that liking the games isn't mutually exclusive.

I also cracked up when I heard the "speed move" line. For the love of God, any of these would work:

    Change of pace
    Acceleration with the ball
    Uses his speed
Hops in his monkey driven jet powered rocket car

I think it was a kind of homage (sp?) to Jack. He seemed to emphasize the word SPEED in speed move. That was my impression anyway. He was just throwing in a subtle shout-out to our boy Jack.

well, i think that the european games are good.. and i like them... but i don't care if my team is not there... sooner or later the soccer-fans (that at this time won't follow US-soccer) will began rooting more for the MLS...

i think the only complaint i have with that game was that some chances were not taken first time...

for example, martinez had a great run through midfield and then sent a great ball to rhine... who lost the ball trying to settle it instead of one timing it on goal

but yes, that was a great game... complete joy to watch... not a fan of either team (especially the burn), but i was on the edge of my seat most of the game and at wit's end once dallas regained the lead in the second half

i also thought that was one of the best announced games i have seen in awhile... some more bad timing with going to veronica, but they went away on the sound and never had the problem with the camera

I don't see how anyone could have a probalem with Rob's performance. He did a great job.

He shouldn't be more than 2nd choice fulltime, however, that said.
