I am making a new thread for this, please only post in here for one of two reasons: 1.) To suggest a classic game to be added to the archive 2.) To offer up a DVD, VHS, or Digital copy of a classic DC United match.
List of Classic DC United Matches: D.C. United vs. Tampa Bay Mutiny (October 10, 1996) D.C. United vs. Vasco de Gama (December 5, 1998) D.C. United vs. Columbus Crew (November 13, 1999) D.C. United vs. San Jose Earthquakes (April 3, 2004) DC United vs New England Revolution (November 6, 2004) D.C. United vs. New York Red Bulls (June 10, 2007) Suggestions??? This is the master list that I will work off of, please make your suggestions and I will add them to the list. Matches in red need to be provided to me so that I can archive them. List of Classic DC United Matches in the process of being archived: D.C. United vs. Columbus Crew (November 13, 1999) This list is matches that I have in my possession and am currently in the process of digitizing and adding to the archive. List of Classic DC United Matches in the archive: N/A at the moment This list is matches that are in the archive.
If you could get your hands on them, I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to see old MLS AllStar games archived.
thats not a bad idea at all.. i dont know if it quite fits into what im doing here, but i really like the way you think.
im not quite sure... im hung up between xvid (so it can be played on ps3, xbox and such) or h264 (higher quality for viewing on the computer) probably going to go with xvid. and they will be uploaded as torrents for sure and maybe onto rapidshare as well.
Cool Idea. Been wanting to see the DC-Toluca 1998 Final again for so long. Also some matches from the 97 Champions League that was in RFK.
If you're going to be doing the work, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE rip them in the highest quality possible. Doing otherwise is equivalent to having the world's finest collection of 96 kbps music. I have a fair number of games on DVD. I'll get a list together.
Some suggestions, feel free to strike any off the list, and, I'm terrible with dates, don't have time at work to look them up, just running off the top of my head... MLS Cups 96, 97, 98 (sadly), 99, 04 1996 US Open Cup Final 1996 Playoffs, Metroskanks @home, penalty 2005? Chelsea Fed Ex? 2006? Real Madrid... Seattle? 2003 @NE July-ish come from behind Toluca 98 I may have more suggestions when I have time to go through my archive.
Oh yea!!! Was the Leon match available on tv back then too? I watched it ni the stadium, but that was a awesome match to see! We beat a VERY strong Leon, who was after etcheverry after that game, but he declined.
careful, I just happened to notice this little paragraph in something about the new copyright nonsense the gov't is getting all worked up about
This? : [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K99f6IF8Vlw"]YouTube- DC United eliminates New York from 1996 MLS Playoffs : 10.2.1996[/ame]
Whatever happened to the stands that used to be behind the South goal, I had forgotten completely about them until watching the TB game. Did the 'Skins take them home when they left? PS - De Avilla is a troll
I considered it for half a second... but how many times does CSN really show these classic games? If anything what I am doing can only HELP DCU and CSN by having these games online, people might come across one of the classics and go "damn, I want to know more about that team", leading to more fans for DCU and more viewers for CSN. I am not selling this archive, or making a dvd collection and selling that, I am creating an online resource for DC United fans to re-live the glory days and for the newer fans to learn about the great performances of the past. I appreciate the concern, but this thread is not for discussion of "should I do it" it is for "what game is next in line to go into the archive".
^^^Yes! I for one try to catch teh games as much as i can, but often forget because of things i am doing, like going to the gym or happy hours with friends lol. So yes, this wont take me away from catching the repeats no CSN, just sort of give me an archive!
I've got a digital copy of the 2004 ECF I can offer. Quality is not the best, I'm afraid (torrent, XVid format, off the original broadcast... hey, at least it's not VHS!)
and he was all like, "Damn the torpedos! Full speed ahead!" I have the official MLS '96 year in review on VHS. It's not very in-depth, but someone might find it interesting. Some of it is kinda cheesy. I'll work on converting to digital if anyone wants it.
Among many fine recordings, I have the 1996 Metrostars year in review video featuring the hijinks at the "Shave your head like Rhett Harty" Day, and the ever-present theme music ("I get knocked down, but I get up again...") It's about 25 minutes of hilarity.
