I'll wait for a re-cap from DCU. Still, a good workout against a higher caliber opponent is a positive.

    Huh???

Ok, maybe it was the beer I had with dinner but I don't understand the lineup for DC that is listed on the link.

I has Stewart starting as a forward, but also coming in for Ryan in the 85. It also has Earnie taking some shots in the first half.

Did we clone Earnie so that we can have 2 of him on the field and only have him take on roster spot and the one salary??

I second that. For some reason everyone on here seems to think that Warren is just another run of the mill keeper. He's not. He's going to be a starter in MLS, as he's simply too good to keep on the bench for very long. Also, Hudson, Trask and Hristo are going to give him some run-outs during the year. I'm guessing he'll be the primary keeper for the US Open Cup, in addition to any Nat's time that Rimando misses.

This kid isn't a developmental roster type player. He's already a decent player. My only reservation about drafting him where we did was that he's not going to be content to remain a backup. If we didn't pick him where we did though, Dallas, Colorado and San Jose all wanted him with their next picks. If/when expansion happens in 2005, I look for him to be one of the first players taken from DC United, as he's someone you can build a defense around.

I have no problem with a draw at 0. Based on the rest of the preseason results I was more worried about the defense than scoring. Scoring agaist college teams is not difficult, especially when a lead is established. But they kept letting college kids score against them. At least now we know that without Pope on the team and with two new additions and Nelson moved to a new spot we can keep things clean without St. Nick. That's good news, the goals will come.

Did anyone else notice that Q2 came in for Petke? I wonder if they actually tried him at defense or if they used him in the midfield.

I think DC United intially started out in a 4-4-2, but changed to a 3-5-2, with Stewart coming in again and playing midfield.

    It is only preseason.

And like dcuinvermont pointed out they did not give up any goals against a MLS team with Warren in goal.

Lest we forget DC United of the last 3 years always managed to give up an extra goal, hopefully working through a 0-0 tie will help in the confidence department.

So all in all there are some positives.

Hristo took a hard knock. Nothing like spitting out some blood to get the juices flowing.

    "BLOODSHED

...the Bulgarian striker was the worst for wear after an accidental collision with the Fire keeper. The two met head-to-head as both maneuvered to avoid each other in the 44th minute. Stoitchkov, who suffered a concussion and a bloody nose, did not return in the second half."

    Re: Re: DC United-Chicago (R)

Ouch! Lanky with the stinging reality comment. :D

It's nice to see Stokes and Warren playing and still not conceding a goal. But, the fact that the fire midfield held possession is most disturbing. Without Nowak or Kovalenko this should be the weak point of the Fire in 2003. So if they held possession against us, that bodes poorly for our midfield ball-winning. Perhaps our lineup is too offensive? Our midfield was our full first team minus Convey. But then again, it's useless to put any weight in pre-season games.

Stokes really needs to be tested during pre-season.
As the line-up now stands, sure we're deeper than last year but defense has the least depth. One solid, experienced defender will be sitting but after him, Stokes is next on our depth chart. And considering the time that Nelson will be out, one injury to the back line and suddenly we are thin.
