Have to be careful with this email, but the management at Summers are in a bit of a dilemma re their future operations. It seems the lease for the place runs out in January, and Joe has had some difficulty in finding a new spot for the place. Now here is what may interest you, the building i Roslyn that now houses Channel 7, was apparently going to be the new spot for Summers, but SOURCES SAY people from the TV station had seen images of Yank fans celebrating "wildly" on the street after a couple of World Cup matches, and put the kibosh on the restaurant/bar coming to their building (the TV station being a much heavier tenant than the restaurant would have been). Bottom line is, Summers having trouble finding a place of business along the Wilson Blvd corridor. This may not bother some of you, but it does me. Perhaps DC area fans will want to speak collectively on this matter to help preserve a centrally-located, clean establishment where fans can congregate.
This has been discussed here already. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=14437 Dave
With all the new office space going up in Summers' current neighborhood, I can't imagine that he can't find space. The rent may be high, but I'd be willing to bet you could negotiate a nice deal about now. I think there's more to it than we're being told.
No prob. It's on page 5 or 6. I just wanted to let you know that we know about it and, if you have anything to add, it should continue over there. Dave
Page 5 or 6 is ok to duplicate a thread...I only put people on my list if a) they duplicate a thread on the 1st page!; b) they duplicate a thread on the 2nd page during exceptionally busy times when a thread gets shunted to the second page within a few hours; c) they insist on creating horrid nicknames for scrub players; d) they fail to give me the proper adoration and general kow-towing; and e) they fail to give me beer!
Yank fans celebrating in the streets? Yes that did happen but ONCE in the history of Summers 18 years of existence. I was there and have photos of fans inside and outside at Summers. The U.S. vs Portugal game. And I wont forget it. One of the best victories if not the best victory in USMNT history. Gotta find Summers a home. Its a icon.
But it's not like fans were setting fires and overturning cars, correct? Was there any violence of any kind? People make me mad. There's always someone who just can't stand to see other people having fun.
Can you please be a bit more specific about your sources? I work in commercial real estate and, according to my database, WJLA-TV occupies approximately 4.5 floors of a 31-story building (14.5%). Now, while they are the largest tenant in the building (though Northrop Grumman and the State Department also lease a lot of space), it's not very plausible that their lease gives them the right to decide which tenants occupy the building. It is, however, possible that WJLA has the exclusive rights the roof for their communications satellites. Dave
You'd think that the money I spent on these frames I would've gotten something of real quality, dammit!
Re: Re: DC Fans - help Summers Yeah the last I heard about this space was there was a problem with Summers getting good dish service. There are a ton of dishes (recently installed and I assume WJLA's) on the roof of the smaller building that links the 2 towers (I can see them from my office). I could see where this would be a problem between Summers and WJLA but I just don't believe they'd give 2 hoots about Summers patrons. As a matter of fact they would probably welcome another establishment to get lunch in, Rosslyn's options are pretty slim. K
you should be. wtf's wrong with you that you didn't page back three weeks to find the original thread? you make me sick GersMan.
