So I see there's a MD license plate push going on and I see back in '05 there was one for Virginia. How about Washington, DC? I didn't see anything in my searching to indicate this exists or has been previously been pursued nor did I see anything with a quick Google search. Can anyone fill me on on what the story/status is here? thanks in advance
Someone posted something a while back - but I wouldn't lead the charge just yet. I have a feeling you will be seeing something about it shortly.
In the MD license plate thread on the main board, K posted the requirements. Very similar to MD's. All we need is someone to shepard it through the process and then get 25 members of a non-profit that sponsors the plate to sign up. Which based on the MD response, shouldn't be too difficult. So, perhaps someone has approached the Screaming Eagles about sheparding it... We'll see. I would like a DC United plate but I don't have the time or energy to make it happen.
if we do do a DC i do suggest hummbly, with no offense hopefully taken that we do not include the SE website or any bias towards a supporters group on it as there are some of us who arent BB, La Norte, or SE's who would like the tag.....again no disrepect to the SE's for thier work
No offense to you then - do the work to become a non-profit, do the work to gather all the people necessary for the tag, and coordinate all the activities involved in making it happen. Barra Brava has no problem putting their logo on their efforts so why shouldn't the Eagles? When the Barra made the Marco scarf - I didn't go around saying "I like the scarf but don't put the Barra logo on their so other groups wouldn't feel left out." I liked the scarf and I appreciated Barra's efforts so i bought it.
Maryland says you can - put I think it is highly dependent on the design on the plate. For example, with the MD plate and the DC logo I don't think they could use that for motorcycles which as I remember have smaller plates. I could just be making that up though.
no you took it the wrong way, i do appreciate what you guys do,yes even me being a barra i appreciate it, just talking with people on the hill about one they would prefer to have one without a supporters group thing on the tag as they dont belong to any, nor would they like to be assosiated with one (which i sorta understand, very conservative peeps) and would prefer just the tag. I myself could care less, yes it would be nice to have one without pimping out someones group, even the barra, but if its a dcu tag then I could careless as its supporting the club which is the overall goal.
Here's a link to K's post with DC details: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=13751734&postcount=33 Like in MD, you need to be a non-profit.
I know I"m several days late here, but the upshot of that is that since it must be a non-profit, you'd be stuck with the Eagles being the ones to do it. But you could use the DC United logo as was the case with the MD tags, and I'm not sure whether they do a website listing (since it would get in the way of the "state" motto). But the sticking point is it costs $52 to get the plate--and $26 annually as a 'display fee'. I think that's a bit of a ripoff, which is a shame because they could get more money by charging a lower fee (for $10 a year I wouldn't care). Still, I've thought about it, and am curious if there's any interest out there. I was presuming by the tone of the thread there isn't, but wanted to double-check that.
I think it's safe to say there's sufficient interest. Let this percolate for awhile and then it will move forward is the word I'm getting.
I know im interested but there would be alot more interest if there was no supporter group on the plate from the concesus around the hill.....almost 80/20 split
Then vanity plates aren't for you! And don't ever move to California, the costs there are a bit higher, some plates cost as much as $90 for the initial set-up and $70 for renewal! A small price to pay for love of a cause!
California hell - try the United Arab Emirates: http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/meast/02/04/uae.plates/ And closer to home - for a long while there was the same thing in Delaware. There was a constant battle between MBNA and DuPont any time a license plate in the single digits became available. We are talking over $1M a pop.
Low numbered plates are HIGHLY prized in RI. You have to know someone in govt, be a mobster or have them willed to you. They pretty much guarantee you can park next to a hydrant. K
I wouldn't blame the SEs if they want their web site on the plate if they do the work to make it happen--totally their prerogative. To echo some others, though, I'd be much more likely to get one if DCU is the only thing promoted (and I'm not a BB or La Norte).
Like I say, I'm not even sure the District allows the website, since it might obscure the cherished "TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION" that seems to have accomplished oh so much. Here's an image (vanity plate without logo): I don't know where you'd put the site, unless you integrated it into the logo.
Looks like DC org plates can have their own slogan http://www.dcplates.com/Optional.htm#Organizational K
Cool, I hadn't seen that. I guess we don't have to, though, so the question would go back to whether non-Eagles would be willing to have the eagles website on there, or whether the Eagles would be willing to have something else (I wonder if we could put DCU's website there). We could probably go with the DC government website as well, though that won't look so good if the team winds up playing in MD.
DC DC United plates would only work for me if motorcycle plates were issued. Since i know of only 2 riders (i believe they live in MD) who go to the majority of games I don't expect to see such plates.
