I'll be heading up to DC on Saturday to take in the United-Fire match, and then driving to Richmond for US-NZ the next day. I know that some others from North Carolina are doing the same thing and that there are some Fire fans heading out from Chicago, too.

I'd really like to watch the home opener from the National Training Center live with a bunch of US/MLS fans. Does anyone know of a watch party at some local pub? I assume that Summers is an obvious choice, right?

Anyway, please post any info you might have, and sorry if I missed another thread that's touched on this.

Summers is a good option. So is Capitol Lounge (231 Pennsylvania Av., SE, at 3rd St., near the Capitol South Metro station; www.soccer-nation.com), which is not too far (17-18 blocks, or 3 Metro stops) from the stadium.

I'm going to be in town visiting for the game and would like to get together to do this too. I'd also like to see the running of the Belmont at about 6:40pm before racing over to the stadium for the DC game. I know it's cutting it close but I think I could probably make it from the Capitol Lounge by taxi or Metro.

    What do the locals think?

While cutting it close, it's a pretty short cab or Metro ride (10-15 minutes) from Capitol Lounge to RFK, so I think you'd be fine.

Game start is 7:30 not 7:00 so you will probably be fine.

Come to think of it, can anyone rig up a TV at the tailgate?

Might be tough as the game isn't on ABC or anything.

But keep me posted I hope I am wrong.

The horse race is on NBC so if you have a regular antenna it can work.

All you need is a small generator (or other power source), a Dish or Direct TV dish drilled into a concrete block, a compass and a television.

I was talking about the horse race so those of us who want to watch it can get in on time.

Yeah I misread that too, sorry.

The Lieutenant's idea sounds pretty good though as well.
