Hey everybody, I'm new here. As I said in an earlier post, I'm a 21 year old student who's been following Arsenal since they signed DB10. I'm from Fairfax, Va originially, and go to school in Fredericksburg. My friends and I head up to Summers in Arlington--all wearing our Arsenal jerseys--to watch matches from time to time. Anybody else on this board go their to watch matches? If not, where in DC do you guys watch? Let me know. Last Sat we had to sit next to some Manure fans, and it would be better to meet some new Gooners to hang out with. Hope to meet some of you guys.
Welcome to this board, I think you'll like it. I'm not in DC, but I think there's pretty good representation here...G. Rex, revelation, asfoolasiam (although I haven't seen him lately)...probably a couple others I'm missing.
A lot of DC Gooners go to the Lucky Bar. It is my local and they have the best bar tender on Saturday! Quite a few Arsenal fans also go to the Cap Lounge (although I've not been there this season). As for mixing of fans, you are likely to get that anywhere. Plus if it weren't for mixing of fans I never would have heard the following: [Scene is Arsenal - Sp*rs match at Lucky Bar] Arsenal leading and dominating the game. Camera pans to a young man (about 13 or so) wearing a Sp*rs shirt crying and looking forlornly at his father. All the Sp*rs fans in the bar start shouting "Get used to it!"
Summers is a good spot to catch a game, i've been there with a teamate dennis once or twice. Lucky Bar is probably the best though and Capital Lounge has games occasionally but its hit and miss... If you're at summers look for the big goofy looking kid in the ljungberg kit
Where abouts is this Lucky Bar? And when it says $10 min, does that mean that it's not a cover, but that you just have to buy $10 bucks worth of booze......or food? I would like that better than the $10 cover and expensive beers at Summers.
I highly reccomend the Lucky Bar, you are right about the $10 minimum. They have a fair selection of beer there (Harp is my fave) and you can find the directions at the soccernation.com website. It's close to the DuPont Circle and Farragut North Metro stops. It's more of a pub than Denny's...err.. Summers.
The $10 cover at Summers is only for CL games, same as the other places in the area. Premiership games over the weekend are free with meal.
Since I've only been going up there for CL games this year, I'm not surprised that I didn't know that...
Thinking about it, since I just found out ESPN 2 is playing Manure AGAIN tommorrow instead of Arsenal-Ajax. What time is the kick-off? Prob wont work out, as I have to be back for class at 6...
I'm an idiot...I have class tommorrow night, and the match is on Wednesday. Is it showing that I've only gotten 5 hours of sleep over the past two days? Hmmmm. The game isnt listed on Lucky's schedule, but is on Summers. I have work at 4 though I'm screwed.
I"m amazed lucky bar doesn't have the game. There seemed to be a lot of supporters there for Arsenal Roma/Ajax Valencia last time I was there. I guess its Summer's then. I'll just have to leave work for a "business meeting with a client"
You're lucky Mr. Ljunberg, I have to be at work at 4, so I'll only be able to catch the first half...and that's only if I re-subscribe to Arsenal Plus, which was not cooperating with me when I tried yesterday. Fox SportsWorld, in all their infinite wisdom, is reshowing the Manure-Bolton match tommorrow afternoon. ESPN 2, meanwhile, will prob be showing billiards. I mean, do these channels just dont want people to watch them???
I would say that you're lucky Mr. Fud. I can't even get Fox Sports World, I can't get satellite in my neighborhood so i'm stuck with comcast and watching replays of EPL games that took place last month. I just saw the Fulham game last week. For those others fortunate to get out to summers tomorrow I will see you there.
ARSENAL IS AT LUCKY BAR I just got an e-mail from soccer-nation Hey Andrew: Spread the word, we've got the match on at Lucky Bar. The problem is/was, that Paul doesn't have C-Band, so he can't pick up the Setanta broadcasts. We pick up the Champions League matches on ESPN International instead. ESPN wasn't going to carry the game, but must have changed their minds late last week. Thanks for the heads up! -Spencer
Not where I live. ESPN 2 had HIGH SCHOOl basketball on. I was forced to read play-by-play on the Guardian.com, which is entertaining in and of itself...
Re: ARSENAL IS AT LUCKY BAR (JonnyQuestCharacterAboutToBeHitByPowerBoat) Aaaaiiiieeeeeee!!! (/JonnyQuestCharacterAboutToBeHitByPowerBoat) I hadn't heard this, and I went to Summers!
Hope to see any of you there. I'll still be there from the Worthnothing Cup match, and I suppose I'll be quite pissed by the time you lads show up...
I really want to go, but I'm afraid I might be too "pissed" from the night before to make the drive up from Fredericksburg! We'll see though.
