    8/25/04 Turning Into a Good Day for YA's [R]

DMB already has a goal in CL play and Spector just named a starter along with Howard in United's CL match. What's next?

According to Beeb tracker, Friedel makes three saves on Henry during 1st 4 minutes of match!

either that or he ends up with a 67 save night. :)
Convey is on the bench, to add a downer, though only to be rested it sounds like.

Yeah, Keller had a pretty good day against a Brazil squad a few years ago. GKs must love it when they have games like that, even though it means the defense is getting shredded.

Convey is still trying to find his way at Reading which isn't that big of a surprise.

At least it's Arsenal. I don't have a good feeling about Blackburn this year.

    Ye hath spoken too soon....

Keller on the bench, Friedel gets abused by Arse, Boca and McBride (sub) lose, Convey make no impact as late sub in Reading's win.

Please knock on wood next time! ;)

To be honest, all that bad stuff was bound to happen anyway. Keller is gonna being sitting for awhile, Friedel didn't stand a chance, Fulham was bound for a letdown, and Convey is Convey ;)

The important stuff happened in the CL games.

Convey makes an appearance and Reading goes to 3 wins, 1 tie in his 4 games played

I'm not ragging on Convey so much as everything I say turns out to be crap so I'm actually trying to help the guy. He would be in my starting 11 v/s EL next week regardless.

Today, we had three Americans start in Champion's League/European Cup. Tim Howard, Jonathon Spector, and DaMarcus Beasley. Has this ever happened before?

I am guessing no. If by some slim chance it had, I doubt there was a goal, 2 assists and a shutout from them.

How many Americans have even played in the CL before this year?

    Kirovski, Reyna, Howard for sure.

Hejduk (w/Leverkusen)? Sanneh (w/ Hertha Berlin)?

I think yes on Hejduk and no on Sanneh.

So, I'd say yes. Today is a very big day in our continual growth as a soccer...dare I say it...power.

Sorry, I forgot he played soccer. Past tense emphasized.

That Milan series was huge. They were unlucky not to go thru.

Any other Yanks in the CL?

Don't mean to rain on the parade, but CL Qualifiers are not the same thing as CL matches. Looks like we will get minutes for Howard and Beasley in the actual CL, but Spector may not get another look (yet) with Brown then Rio coming back into the ManU squad.

And if I run into Elvis in the supermarket, that could mean that JOB is healthy and will actually play for Ajax. This year. In the CL.

Kirovski (for Dortmund in 96-97, the year they won it) (although it may have still been called the European Cup back then; same tourney).

Sanneh played in the CL group stage with Hertha and even got on ESPN2 when they played against Chelsea.

It changed to the Champions League for the 1992/93 season, so yes he did play for the CL champions.
